Akon Freedom Album Review

The Reviewer
Akon is one of the most highly sought after artists and producers in all of music. He has collaborated with some of the most powerful artists in music including Michael Jackson, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and Gwen Stefani. Now Akon is back with his third album Freedom. Will Freedom be yet another international smash for the head of Konvict Music?

The first single off of Freedom is Right Now (Na Na Na). The single is what you expect from an Akon radio first single. The track is catchy, non-offensive and appeals to a wide audience base.

The second single is I'm So Paid featuring rap stars Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy. The song is what you expect from a rap posse track. The song features catchy production and a memorable chorus. All of the artists involved with the track deliver strong verses.

Holla Holla features label mate T-Pain. The song is more of the same that you expect from a collaboration between T-Pain and Akon. The song will be playing on a nonstop rotation of the radio in the near future.

We Don't Care channels some vintage 1980's Michael Jackson. The track works and Akon's vocals shine on the track.

Wyclef Jean teams with Akon on Sunny Day. The song is one of the most uplifting urban tracks in recent memory. The song is simple and is sure to be an international hit single.

Beautiful features label mates Colby O'Donis and Kardinal Offishall. The song features pop friendly production and the Konvict Music family delivers on the track.

Trouble Maker is more of the non-offensive pop-urban music. The track features Sweet Rush and is yet another well done song.

Ray Lavender another member of Konvict Music teams up with Akon on Against The Grain. The song is fairly solid yet not one of the best tracks on the album. The high point of the track is definitely the production.

Over The Edge is a strong R&B track and different than the commercial pop leanings of the album. The song is interesting and works.

The album closes with the title track Freedom which is another uplifting song. The track features a strong dose of acoustic guitar and is in the same vein as what you expect from Wyclef Jean.

Freedom shows off a more mature side of Akon. He includes his pop friendly staples and a few urban tracks; however there is a depth not previously found with the artist. It seems like Akon is trying to fill the same lane as mentor Wyclef Jean and it works. Overall Freedom gets 8 out of 10. If you are a fan of Akon make sure you pick up Freedom when it is available in stores on December 2nd.
