Tucked back in this row of brownstones curious travelers will find a 150 year old home with more secrets than meets the eye. The next stop in our travels brought us back to the Stuyvesant Heights section of Brooklyn at this landmarked mansion from the 1860's '" Akwaaba Mansion.

The brainchild of innkeeper Monique and husband Glenn, Akwaaba Mansion has four guest rooms; each uniquely decorated with their own personal touches. From the looks of the grounds there is plenty here for guests to indulge. From sipping a cup of tea on the front porch to lining up your wedding processional in the ample courtyard to snuggling up on the two person swing in the back, Akwaaba Mansion leaves little for guests to want. While all that sounds lovely, what about the beds? Let's head on inside Akwaaba Mansion and see if this is somewhere that you should sleep here now.

Akwaaba Mansion is something of a fish out of water. It's property stretches out far in the back and the space is standalone. This is great news for any who would like to have a wedding party here; the space can accommodate indoor weddings of up to around 80 and outdoor events of 120.

All the bedrooms at Akwaaba Mansion have private bathrooms. There are also two of the four guestrooms outfit with Jacuzzi tubs. The room we stayed in, Jumping the Broom, was a very well outfit room with one of the Jacuzzi tubs and separate, standing shower. The bed was a queen sized bed with comfortable pillows and draped in sheer. There were two comfortable chairs, clock radio, ample closet space, and a dressing table with a large oval mirror.

One of the really nice things at Akwaaba Mansion happened when we came back from dinner. Innkeeper Monique and one of her assistants were drawing a bath for us in our Jacuzzi tub room. While this was not something we were likely to have done, we were able to take a relaxing after dinner soak thanks to the kindness of the innkeeper.

After a relaxing night's sleep and a bounteous breakfast it's time for me to be on my way. Akwaaba Mansion has so many wonderful things going for it and owners who genuinely care about preserving this history. The current owners are only the fifth set of hands to touch these keys in its 150 year history. The individual care and attention which each room gets and ample common areas make Akwaaba Mansion the perfect space for larger events. The subtle touches and quiet nooks which are found all around the property make Akwaaba Mansion a great place for you and someone special to snuggle up and relax.
