Al Gore as Vice President in 2008?

Matt A. Maxx
Al Gore would make a wonderful Vice President if attached to either Clinton or Obama during the 2008 elections... What a scary thought! Al Gore is the Nobel Peace Prize winner who already has the self-appointed important job of saving our planet right now. If we move him into the position of Vice President, we have Al Gore working on fixing the country instead of fixing the planet, and we simply can not afford to do that.

The Al Gore name is liked by most democratic voters, and if it were attached to either Clinton or Obama in the 2008 elections, the popular Al Gore name would probably grab some of the undecided votes for the ticket. Al Gore was a good vice president to Bill Clinton, so that even the politically uneducated voters have a chance of voting him back into the same job duties that he has done in the past.

If Al Gore were to be voted in as Vice President, the Gore name may have helped to secure elections, but I don't think that Hillary Clinton would be very happy with Al Gore by her side. Hillary Clinton goes out of her way to make sure that we all understand that she is a separate entity from her husband. Hillary Clinton doesn't want her husbands Vice President giving her advice; she wants her own Vice President.

Barack Obama seems to understand that Al Gore is a good name to couple with. A few weeks ago, Barack Obama made the announcement that he would be offering Al Gore a position working on environmental issues if elected as President. This leads me to believe that Barack Obama would not be happy if Al Gore was suddenly made into his Vice President instead of being available to work full-time on the environment.

Like many Americans, I still question what might have happened in the 2000 election if Al Gore had won the presidency like our popular vote declared. In my mind, I can't help but wonder if the Gore name will magically end up being one of our presidential choices at election time with the Obama or Clinton name in the Vice President position. If Al Gore were to end up as President, global warming concerns would become a top priority.

Al Gore needs to stay away from becoming a Vice President where his hands are tied on environmental issues; he needs a position either above Vice President or below Vice President where he can continue to concentrate efforts on solving some of our immediate global warming issues. Our climate is changing; and this change seems to be a bad-news event for all of us.

Our favorite Al Gore name should not be made into a Vice Presidential running mate for Clinton or Obama this year. It is not the right position for this talented man while the polar ice caps are melting. We need to acknowledge Gore's strengths within the environmental concerns area, and realize that we need to keep this resource in a working position that can help all of us.

Yes, Al Gore would be a good Vice President, which is his biggest weakness; this man is too popular to the American public. The public likes Al Gore and might be ready to vote him into any available position without considering what will happen if we lose his environmental services.
