Al Gore Couldn't Curb His Enthusiasm for Affair with Laurie David

Al and Tipper Gore reportedly are divorcing over an affair that Gore had with the ex-wife of Larry David. When the Gores first announced the end of their marriage a couple of weeks ago, their friends, and the world at large, were shocked.

The Gores seemed to have a solid marriage, at least from the outside looking in. Few will forget, for better or worse, the long and passionate(?) kiss the two shared at the Democratic convention when Gore was running for president.

So it seemed to be a true head scratcher when the Gores announced their separation. Many at the time said that there was no affair, but no real explanation was given.

Today, however, Star Magazine broke an exclusive story that Al Gore has been having a two year affair with Laurie David, the ex-wife of Larry David, the comedian and star of HBO's hit series Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Laurie David has a long history of working on environmental causes. While she did not have an official role with the show, it is believed that her influence caused several subtleties in the show addressing the environment and global warming.

Al Gore, of course, is probably more famous for his role in raising awareness of global warming, with his hit movie an Inconvenient Truth, than he is even for being a former Vice President.

It was no secret that the Gores and the Davids were friends and shared a common passion for, well, curbing global warming and helping the environment. They worked on several initiatives together and ran in the same circles.

Could it be that the passion which Al Gore and Laurie David felt for working on environmental issues ultimately laid the groundwork for a romance? After forty years of marriage, married people and their close friends understandably hope for a happy, story book ending.

But forty years is a long time to be together; interests, objectives and passions change through the years and every couple has to work on finding common ground and interests in order to keep their marriage not just alive but thriving.

While no outsider can tell what exactly is happening inside any marriage, on paper it is painfully logical to see that there is a potential for this when two high profile people combine forces and work together on something they find mutually important.

The upcoming days and weeks are sure to shed more light on this alleged affair between Al Gore and Laurie David and what role their work and common vision played in bringing them together and, in Gore's case, out of his marriage.
