Al Gore and Tipper Gore Call it Quits?

Sheila Chase
Wow! According to the Associated Press, Al Gore and Tipper Gore are about to call it quits on their 40-year marriage, but both claim that a third party is not involved. According to the Associated Press, the two just grew apart over time. Who would have ever guessed this one? Al and Tipper gave America hope for the institution of marriage by so publicly being happy with each other during Al Gore's presidential campaigning? Was this an act? Could their happiness just been another persuasive tactic to gain America's vote for the presidency? Maybe and maybe not. Were they really in love, or did they feel that they needed to deliver the love story that Americans would appreciate?

The Associated Press reminds us of how Al Gore once claimed loving his high school sweetheart, Tipper, with his "whole heart." What a declaration! And such a declaration can melt hearts, not to mention cause people to once again believe in the ever-diminishing nature of marriage. So, what really happened? Was the Gore couple really telling America the truth when they seemed so much in love? You can see a picture here of Al and Tipper Gore sharing a passionate kiss during Al's time as Vice-President of the United States. The kiss seems to be an aggressive one, and Tipper Gore's body language seems to say that she was a bit taken aback with her husband's kiss. Was she?

The picture seems to say that Tipper Gore is surprised, but Al Gore seems to have a strong physical hold on her, so Tipper Gore seems to just go ahead and take in his kiss. Even so, did she really reciprocate the affection? Only Al and Tipper Gore know the answer to this question. Does the answer to such a question really matter, anymore? Some Americans may still think so, especially the ones who need to have faith in the institution of marriage. So, what is so wrong with the Gore marriage that Al and Tipper cannot work out? Isn't this the true meaning behind the promise of the "for better or for worse" phrase? The idea that Al Gore and Tipper Gore simply grew apart suggests that with a bit of effort, the two could grow back together. Will this happen?

Stay tuned.
