Al Greene's Senate Race a Joke

Tony Daniels
As a middle-aged African-American male with a college degree I must say that I am embarrassed by what is transpiring with Alvin Greene and the Senate race in South Carolina.

Greene won the Democratic primary in the state and in doing so has positioned himself to run in the general election to be held in November of this year.

Greene's victory is both amazing and perplexing at the same time.

A virtual unknown, Greene was able to win the primary without the use of lawn signs, an internet website or giving any campaign speeches.

But that's not all.

Considering all this, the big mystery is how he managed to garner enough votes to actually win the primary.

Amazing.

This certainly should be one for the Guinness Book of World Records and American political history.

Mr. Greene's victory has not gone unnoticed as you may well have concluded and in fact has been questioned by many political leaders including House Representative James Clyburn, of South Carolina who has accused Mr. Greene of "being someone's plant."

Representative Clyburn suggests that Mr. Greene was "planted" in the senate race by a third party in an effort to somehow influence the November election.

Having seen several news interviews of Mr. Greene since his victory in the primary election, most notably with Don Lemon of CNN, I must say Mr. Clyburn's accusations deserve some serious consideration.

In the interview with Lemon, Greene was withdrawn to the point of seeming to be under the influence of something, prompting Mr. Lemon to ask that very question.

To add to the mystery, there are several allegations against Greene including one involving pornography.

Then there is the question of how an unemployed army veteran came up with the $10,400 filing fee to run for office.

According to Representative Clyburn, "there are some shenanigans going on."

Right now, there are more questions than there are answers and Alvin Greene doesn't seem to be anxious to answer any of them.

In the interviews that I have witnessed, Greene was quiet and very unsure of what to say when asked a question. He had the appearance of someone who was thrown in front of the camera without any preparation or coaching.

He was worse than Sarah Palin.

It is embarrassing to witness such a spectacle being paraded as a legitimate candidacy. Is this what America has come to?

This takes "win at all cost" to another level.

I do not know Mr. Greene personally. I do not know his background or if he is qualified for the office that he is seeking but from all appearances that I have seen so far, he does not appear to be qualified to run for county dog warden.

Mr. Greene do yourself, your community and the nation a favor and stop this farce right now before someone gets seriously hurt.

Tony Daniels in case you haven't heard this is America! Just when did it become a crime to win a political primary. You are the joke for writing and publishing such demeaning articles. This man won legally and he beat a white judge. Even if he doesn't win the general election he has already won over many Americans!
