Al Sharpton Boards the Steroid Scandal Train

Mr. Mo'Kelly
You knew it was coming. You just KNEW it was coming. It wasn't a matter of "if," just a matter of when. Find the highest profile issue in media, attempt to weave some ill-informed argument concerning racial disparity into the public discourse and sure enough, Rev. Sharpie will be somewhere in the midst.

Rev. "Sharpie" is now beating his media drum and stoking the racial fires in the steroids battle, attempting to make the argument that Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens have been handled in disparate manners by the press, courts and congress.

Yes, Sharpie is doing what he does best, grandstanding over issues of insignificance and inconsequence, while remaining firm in his attempt to keep his name at the forefront of the media.

That's what "entertainers" do.

They grandstand and sign autographs with their Sharpie. And Rev. Sharpie does it well.

Al Sharpton has nothing to say on his "friend" Troi 'Star' Torain, but has time to make a statement on the steroids scandal.

Unbelievable.

Actually, it is believable...just indefensible.

Instead of waiting to see if Clemens would also be indicted on perjury charges as was Bonds (note Bonds was indicted after FOUR YEARS of speculation), Sharpie was more concerned with being FIRST to claim disparate treatment along racial lines.I've got his "disparate treatment" right here.

Barry Bonds 2007 indictment for perjury stemmed from 2003 grand jury testimony. Note the math here...

FOUR years.

Clemens finished testifying when? 20 minutes ago? That is "disparate treatment" in and of itself. Couldn't he have AT LEAST waited until March, or maybe 2009?

At least?!

He'll get no disagreement from Mo'Kelly that members of the media have been more "kind" and "reluctant to accuse" Clemens of steroid infidelity. Mo'Kelly understands that and isn't blind to these truths.

But that's not even close to the issue here. To correctly draw a comparison between the "attack" on Barry Bonds and the "attack" on Roger Clemens, patience was in order. You have to let the fullness of the event play itself out. To use a baseball analogy, you can't call the game after the 2nd inning and tell Mo'Kelly who won, lost and why. This is simply another example of Rev. Sharpie attempting to pursue questionable exploits and fruitless endeavors.

Then again, Rev. Sharpie wasn't attempting to bring a degree of intellectual honesty to this discussion, only more press coverage for himself. Hopefully he's happy. He did manage to star in another edition of The Mo'Kelly Report.

Mission accomplished it seems. Don't go and spend all that social capital in one place now Rev. Sharpie. Maybe it's worth a free haircut somewhere.

In the end, the transparency of Al's self-aggrandizement tour is at an all-time high. In the meantime, Troi Torain gears up to return to the air and Rev. Sharpie is still inexplicably mum.

Well, there's an "explanation," just not one that's reasonable or rational in nature. And given Al's "championing of media images" in relation to African-Americans, there is no comparison in the importance of the debate surrounding Troi 'Star' Torain as opposed to Paris Hilton, Don Imus or Roger Clemens.

Roger Clemens?!

Rev. Sharpie STILL has nothing to say on this issue and refuses to respond to any interview request as to address the issue of Star and Bucwild?

Really...seriously?

It is STILL, hypocrisy of the highest order. Indefensible, inexcusable and ultimately inarguable.

Mo'Kelly could close with some thought-provoking quote by Dr. King, or some intellectually sound reasoning by W.E.B. DuBois to best express Rev. Sharpie's behavior...but instead, Mo'Kelly will leave you with the words of the great...

Cole Porter.

Rev. Al...

"Be a clown, be a clown, all the world loves a clown.
Be the poor silly ass and you'll always travel first class.
Give 'em quips, give 'em fun and they'll pay to say you're A-one.
If you become a farmer, you've the weather to buck.
If become a gambler you'll be struck with your luck.
But jack you'll never lack if you can quack like a duck.
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown."

Keep on quackin' Rev. Al...
