Al Sharpton Counters Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor Rally

"I Have a Dream that My Four Little Children Will One Day Live in a Nation Where They Will Not Be Judged by the Color of Their Skin but by the Content of Their Character."- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

On Saturday, August 28, 2010, Fox News personality Glenn Beck hosted the Restoring Honor Rally at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The rally was billed as a non-political and non-partisan event with any and all proceeds going to The Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF).

The rally was a free event with no ticket sales. Donations were accepted mainly online for a worthy and honorable cause, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

The mission of the SOWF is to provide full scholarship grants and family counseling for the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions.

Reverend Al Sharpton promoted a rally and march in D.C. to "Reclaim the Dream," an obvious reference to the famous I Have a Dream speech by Martin Luther King Jr. and Sharpton's claim that Beck is attempting to 'hijack the dream."

The rallies were held on the 47th anniversary of MLK's speech at the Lincoln Memorial and historic march on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Sharpton issued a press release via his National Action Network (NAN) claiming "the conservative tea party members and TV host Glenn Beck will attempt to hijack the dream, at the same time civil rights activists will convene at Dunbar High School to shed light upon key issues that have diminished the dream."

The promoters of the Restoring Honor Rally made it perfectly clear on its websites and on Glenn Beck's popular television program that "The Restoring Honor Rally is neither a 9/12 nor a Tea Party rally. This rally will honor the troops, unite the American people under the principles of integrity and truth, and make a pledge to restore honor within ourselves and our country."

Sarah Palin gave a 17-minute speech at the rally and told the crowd she is there as a mother of a combat veteran and proud to be among patriots.

Media Matters, the far left group that was a part of Sharpton's Reclaim the Dream event excoriated Palin for subsequent remarks where she said, "I must assume that you too, knowing that, no, we must not fundamentally transform America as some would want, we must restore America and restore her honor."

Yep, that was the best they can do; complain about a positive comment regarding America and a cheeky reference about a negative goal the POTUS held about fundamentally transforming America.

On Al Sharpton's NAN the inclusion of Media Matters and other "progressive activists" including NAACP head Ben Jealous were touted as being a part of Sharpton's march and rally.

The NAACP under Ben Jealous' stewardship adopted a resolution claiming racism in the tea party. The highly polarizing charges were without merit and only served to impede race relations.

Far too often men of Jealous' and Sharpton's ilk exploit the social ills in America to earn a buck, they fan the flames of race related issues in order to capitalize on emotionally charged occurrences. It is easier for men of that caliber to earn a living as race-arsonists and hustlers than to maintain a responsible position in society.

Sharpton and his cohorts lambasted Glenn Beck, the Tea Party and other patriots as "hijacking the dream" and held a counter rally in protest. Sharpton's actions are counter to the message of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Alveda King, niece of MLK, took the fire of the haters and proudly stood with Glenn Beck to take personal responsibility, honor this great nation, honor our troops and to stand in solidarity with fellow patriots.

Dr. Alveda King eloquently had this to say prior to her appearance at the Restoring Honor Rally,

"Delineating ourselves as red state or blue, liberal or conservative, minority or majority, we have not quite reached the day when men and women are "judged not by the color of their skin but on the content of their character." Dr. King added, "The rally will also give America another chance to honor and thank the men and women in our armed forces for the dangers they face every day in our stead."

Ironic that Beck, a dopey white kid from Mount Vernon, Washington, can capture and honor the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr., while the Reverend Al Sharpton can pervert it; that is the difference between a God-fearing pundit and a race-hustling reverend.

Your apologetic tone regarding Sharpton speaks volumes Patricia.

I found Beck's "Restoring Honor" theme insulting as I see no signs that this country has lost its honor. And while Sharpton is a buffoon, he's not wrong all the time. And the fact that Beck didn't know he'd scheduled his rally on the same day and same spot as MLK's "Dream" speech, shows how out of the loop he really is when it comes to race relations.

Ah, yes, good ol' 'Reverend' Al; racial-ambulance-chaser extraordinaire! I figger'd it'd be only a matter of time before the fire-breathers came crawling from the woodwork post-rally, and, of course, he's the first to arrive on the scene. Yeah, I remember Tawana Brawley; Even though she was exposed as a lying phony, Al's stance was still (a la the Duke Lacrosse team incident) "Well, it COULD have happened"! Well, I 'could have' been a big rock star! So, where's my Grammy?
