Alabama Recruit Blake Sims Back with the Tide

Sims Re-commits to Alabama

Two months ago Blake Sims was a lock to play for the Crimson Tide in 2010, but over the last few weeks coaches have been working hard to steer him in a different direction. Sims is labeled by many recruiting services as an "athlete" but has made his most significant contributions in high school as a quarterback. He has a strong desire to stay on the offensive side of the football but definitely has the skill set to play defense at the next level as well.

Now this speedster and long time Georgia Bulldog fan finds himself at a crossroads; Alabama already has excellent depth at the quarterback position and with the addition of pro-style QB Phillip Sims in 2010, it seemed as though Blake Sims was about to go from star high school player to "the other Sims".

Don't tell him that though; he knew about Bama's QB situation months ago and was still confident enough in his abilities as an offensive threat (particularly as a receiver) to make the commitment anyway.

Now lets see if you can keep up with the following sequence of events:
Enter former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin - After a very long discussion, Kiffin seemed to have Sims doubting his offensive role at Alabama - Sims retracts his commitment to the Tide - Kiffin then bails out of Knoxville (after only one season) for the sunny skies of Southern California and leaves Sims (among others) hanging.

To the delight of fans across the state of Alabama Sims decided to re-commit to the Tide only a week after he voiced a desire to explore other options. This saga might not be over however as other schools are still in pursuit. Barring any crazy events though, Sims should end up at Bama. In recent interviews he has appeared as sure as ever about his decision.

I am excited to see where Saban lines this player up at when he does finally arrive in Tuscaloosa. His decision making at quarterback has developed a lot in his final prep season and he has packed on a little extra size as well. No matter where Saban decides to play him, you can bet that Sims' talents will be on full display.
