Aladdin Movie: Educational Activities and Games for 2 to 5 Year Olds

Rebecca Hayes
Let's face it, kids love movies, but it's been proven that they should watch no more than 2 hours of TV a day. So why not combine their love of a movie and activities that will help them learn and grow? Following are suggestions for the movie Aladdin released in 1992. These activities would also work well for preschool classes and party games for this age group.

Watch the movie

Let your kids watch the show while you prepare the activities for the rest of the day or attend to other responsibilities.

Three Wishes Game

Ask your child what they would wish for if they could make three wishes. Be sure to count the wishes as they make them. Ask them why they wished for the things they wished for. After they have decided on their wishes encourage them to draw a picture of what they would do with what they receive from their wishes.

Find the Lamp

Hide an object that would pass as a Genie's lamp. Give your child clues on how to find it, or play hot and cold to help them find it. When they find it, ask them to hide it and give you clues or play hot and cold with you.

Magic Carpet Ride

Put out two rugs, carpet squares or towels. Sit on them and pretend to go on a magic carpet ride. Ask your child where they want to go and then point out things you would see on the way there. Pretend to wave to people below you and look at the sky. If you have enough people, put out enough rugs for everyone minus one and play musical magic carpets.

Read a Book

Enjoy a book with your child that relates to Aladdin. Ask your child questions about the pictures and the story. Have them act out different parts of the story. Make reading a fun experience. Following are a few book recommendations.

  • The Arabian Nights (Illustrated Junior Library) by Earle Goodenow
  • Disney's Aladdin: Travels With the Genie (A Puppet Book) by Walt Disney Productions and Disney Studios
  • Disney's Genie's ABC by Eric Goldberg and Susan Goldberg
  • I Wish I Were A Pilot by Stella Blackstone and Max Grover
  • I Wish My Brother Was a Dog (Picture Puffins) by Carol Shields

Try New Foods

Eastern foods are very different from what we are used to. Encourage your child to try some foods that Aladdin and Jasmine would have eaten. Some suggestions are: flat bread, couscous, dried fruits, and Baklava.
