Alan Jackson: The Real Story About His Marriage with Wife Denise Jackson

Elena H
If you really want to know about the life and marriage of country music star Alan Jackson, forget about the tabloids and celebrity web sites and read Denise Jackson' s book entitled It's All About Him: Finding The Love of my Life. Alan Jackson wrote the foreword in the book, which made #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List the 1st week it was released in August 2007.

I have just finished reading this book. I started reading it with the intention of reading it as I read other non-fiction books. I am usually reading a non-fiction book and a fiction book at the same time, alternating and spending more time with the fiction choice. However, when I started reading the story of Alan and Denise Jackson, I could not put it down. It was four a.m. when I finished and it was totally worth the lack of sleep.

The foreword is very indicative of the current relationship of Alan Jackson and wife Denise Jackson. Alan Jackson uses the lyrics from his song I'd Love You All Over Again to make the point that those "sincere" words, written as a tenth anniversary present to Denise in 1990 were words he only began to understand completely after almost two more decades of marriage. Alan Jackson says of his wife Denise, "She's a rare combination: a gorgeous blonde with a "tomboy" attitude, who can make homemade biscuits just like my mama's." About his opinion of Its All About Him, Alan Jackson states, "I could not stop turning the pages even though I know how the story ends!" Alan comments that he was "exhausted from tears and laughter, inspired by Denise's strength and ability". When he finished reading the book, Alan wrote a song with the same title. It is included with the book as is one entitled That's The Way, which is the song Alan Jackson sang to Denise at their wedding. Alan Jackson credits his wife Denise as being "the rock I lean on day after day" and says she is a woman of "southern grace, charm, beauty, talent, and integrity".

It's All About Him is not just a mutual admiration love story. Denise Jackson is very candid in revealing how their relationship began and how and why problems in the marriage developed. It's All About Him is a story of young teenage love; how young love turned into heartache and separation; and how hearts were mended and the marriage saved. It's All About Him is a story of the life and marriage of Alan Jackson and Denise Jackson, but it is also a story about the faith of Alan Jackson and Denise Jackson. Denise Jackson writes each chapter by relating it to song lyrics written by Alan Jackson. I especially enjoyed the beautiful color pictures of their family and life events.

I highly recommend It's All About Him: Finding The Love of My Life to fans of country music, fans of Alan Jackson and to people who just enjoy a good story. Alan Jackson and Denise Jackson are not ashamed to admit their failures and they boldly proclaim their belief in the One who redeemed their lives and their marriage.

If you were not a fan of Alan Jackson and Denise Jackson when you started reading It's All About Him: Finding The Love of My Life, you probably will be when you finish it.

Great review. I will have to read it. I somehow missed this review earlier. It was very interesting. I loved his song "Where Were You?" as well as Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue." Obviously, I'm a country music fan.

Not being a country music fan, I had never heard of Alan Jackson. I saw he and his wife interviewed about the book on TV. Your review sounds good, so I think I'll have to pick it up. Thanks!
