Albert Haynesworth Suspended by Washington Redskins for Rest of 2010

Albert Haynesworth was suspended by the Washington Redskins Tuesday. Not only is Haynesworth suspended, but he won't be paid for the four games he will miss to close out the 2010 season. The back-and-forth between Haynesworth and the Redskins has been going on all season, but it seems that the team was finally given enough reasons to simply suspend him and save some money on his contract.

According to ESPN, the reason for the suspension has been classified as "conduct detrimental to the club," and now the team won't have to deal with his antics for at least the next month. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, especially with all the whining Haynesworth has done this year about the change in the defensive scheme by the team. When they hired new coach Mike Shanahan, the Redskins moved to a 3-4 defense, something that has not made Haynesworth happy.

ESPN also noted that Haynesworth had skipped offseason workouts, boycotted a mandatory minicamp, needed 10 days to pass a conditioning test at the Redskins training camp, and then wouldn't stop complaining about the new defense that Washington was trying out. It always seemed like Haynesworth was just on the field to collect a paycheck this season, earning a potential of $100 million if he gets all the money from his current contract. He won't get it all, though, because the defensive lineman will not be paid during his next suspension.

Washington has fallen to 5-7 in the 2010 NFL season, despite bringing in Donovan McNabb and a new head coach to try to breathe new life into this team. They look to miss the NFC Playoffs yet again, and are now at risk of falling back into last place in the NFC East if the Dallas Cowboys keep winning. By all accounts, this is a very disappointing season for the Redskins, especially with how much they have devoted to payroll. Shanahan probably wouldn't have wanted Haynesworth on this team if it didn't cost millions of dollars to simply cut him from the roster.

This is just the latest chapter in what has become a frustrating season for Redskins fans, and there is no indication that things are going to get better. Someone close to Haynesworth really needs to step in and talk to him about how much he has damaged his personal image, and how he has to change his attitude if he wants teammates to ever trust him again. No fan is going to have sympathy for a guy making more than $100 million but won't stop complaining. They certainly aren't going to have sympathy for him after this suspension either.

Waste of talent. Even a 335 pound man can be a diva. Look how well complaining about your current situation worked out for Randy Moss. I hope he goes to the Panthers or Broncos, maybe the Bills will pick him up.

Haynesworth is an idiot. I'm not a Redskins fan but they would do well to be rid of him. They have enough problems without the guy sewing discord...
