Album Reivew: Eminem's Recovery

Well I heard Eminem's "Recovery" today and I must say I am very impressed. It is quite different then Eminem's other albums, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Gone are the accents from "Relapse", and lyrically Eminem is back to where is he was with "The Eminem Show". The album starts off with "Cold Wind Blows" an absolute head banger of a track that has Shady rapping like the days of old. Then the album takes a strange turn with the track "Talkin 2 Myself" featuring Kobe. The track is definitely different, and grew on me with time. "On Fire" is another head banger that disses Brooke Hogan and David Cook as well as having a reference to Michael Jackson.

Then the album has the track "Won't Back Down" with Pink. A re-energized Eminem raps over a bluesy type beat with Pink on the hook singing. "You can call all your guards you can ring the alarms, you can fence in the yards, but I won't back down". Em raps "Half a breath left, on my death bed, screaming F that yeah super ill". Then the album goes to a party song called W.T.P or white trash party, something Eminem hasn't done in a while, put out a true party song. The song is a true party song for sure, and sure to be the anthem at back yard parties all across America. "Going Through Changes" has Ozzy Osbourne on the hook and Eminem even admits "Marshall whats going on with you that you can't stop with these pills and you're falling off with your skills so that your own fans are laughing at you".

Then the album has the hit single "Not Afraid", that I'm sure by now everybody has heard either on the radio or somewhere. It was the only song I skipped through when listening to it. The next track "Seduction" is about seducing a female using Eminem's star power. A lot of the album is about the ladies, and Slim definitely did make an album for all you girls out there.The next song has the potential to be the next "Forgot about Dre" it's called "No Love" with Lil Wayne and is probably the best song on the CD. "I'm alive again" Em starts out his verse saying. "Spacebound" a song that appears to maybe use relationships as a metaphor for drugs, at least on the last verse is an interesting song as well. Acoustic guitar and even electric guitars are frequent on this album, another new thing for Eminem.

"Cinderella Man" is probably my least favorite track on the CD, although not because of Eminem's rapping but rather the beat and the chorus. He does have some memorable lines on this track. "25 to Life" is Eminem's Common "I Used To Love Her". "So Bad" has an absolute gem of a Dr. Dre beat, a classic Dre beat with Eminem rapping about the ladies again. "I'm so good but I'm so bad, I guarantee I'll be the greatest thing you ever had", Em raps on the chorus. "Almost Famous" depicts Eminem's rise to fame and gives an interesting look into his life. "Love the way you lie" with Rihanna, is a song about abusive relationships and definitely meaningful that he got Rihanna on the chorus "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn, that's okay because I love the way it hurts" Rihanna sings over the chorus. Then "You're Never Over" is a song dedicated to Proof of D12, a fitting tribute to a fallen friend, before going into the "Untitled" last song. "Untitled" reminds me a lot of "Criminal" from the Marshall Mathers LP, or even the whole CD itself.

Listening to Eminem's "Recovery", there isn't really a bad track on it and it is definitely a step up above Relapse. It's really unfair to compare it to his other albums because it sounds so different. "Recovery" is sure to be the album of the year and will probably sell more then any other album. I give this album an 8.5/10 and it may even go to 9/10 after giving it a few more listens.
