Albuterol Inhaler Side Effects I've Experienced

If you read the little insert in the medication box that you get with your Albuterol, Proventil, or Ventolin inhaler, you will learn the many different side effects. If you're like most people, you never read the insert, or you just never thought you would ever get the side effects. I have gotten some, and I still do.

One of the main side effects of Albuterol I get is the increased heart rate. I take my normal 2 puffs and end up with my heart racing. This is bad since I walk around with an extra heart beat. So not only does my heart rate increase I get more palpitations than usually. Another side effect I get are the tremors, which means my extremities shake. Let me tell you when you're driving and all of a sudden you're foot starts shaking while you are stopped in traffic. It makes you feel like you are going to wreck.

The good thing about that side effect is that it goes away quickly. Now that is only if you take 2 puffs. Now one time I had to take more than the normal 2 puffs and well that wasn't good. I shook for 24 hours. The best thing to do when you have the tremors is to let you body tremor or walk around. That usually helps you get rid of it. Now with the rapid heart rate, if you notice it and you continue to take your inhaler ever hour or so, your heart rate will continue to increase. Thats is not good, even when I notice that, I just tend to give up on taking my inhaler. Not much to do with that except wait it out, but if I notice it's beating too fast I go to the emergency room. It's not fun when you can't sleep because it feels like your heart is racing and you need to run with it. Thats not good the only alternative when that happens though is to ask the doctor for another inhaler that would do the trick.

There are other side effects to Albuterol, but I haven't personally experienced any of them. If you notice any side effects mentioned in the pamphlet contact your doctor immediately. Don't expect to have any of the symptoms. I never noticed them that much when I was growing up since I've been on the inhaler for years. Every person is different and it's best not to worry about the side effects, just take notice if you have a very noticeable one.
