Alcohol and Drug Abuse Rehabilitation

Don't Be a Slave to Sin

Janice Meyer
The best and most meaningful way to free yourself from drug addiction is to get into a well- established Christian Drug Rehabilitation program. If you are caught in a diagnosis of alcohol and drug abuse, the first thing you should do is admit to yourself that you have a problem. Then truly believe you cannot beat this problem alone. You need something or someone higher and more knowing who is just waiting for you to ask for help. God is all-knowing, and He wants to help you right now - today.

In most instances of substance abuse, Christian programs for recovery are led by Christian therapists who are trained to deal with addiction via spiritual and Biblical recovery. These therapists provide Biblical counseling within the framework of a specific Christ-centered organization and its treatment program. Such Christian addiction programs are often connected to a church. They focus on each patient's mind, body and spiritual needs in individual as well as group therapy. Sunday worship and weekly Bible study are also provided while in most treatment programs. All regular features of other successful substance abuse programs are evident during treatment. These features are as follows: Psychiatric care, exercise and nutrition, recreation, family involvement, aftercare and relocation.

A Christian atmosphere provides a safe, nurturing environment where you can share your new strength and hope with friends and others who are reaching out through a Christ-centered alcohol addiction and drug abuse wellness program. You must accept God's grace, which is available through a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. Go to meet Him in prayer at least once each day. If you have an urge to go back to your old habits, talk to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Real spiritual power is found in the Word of God, which is the Holy Bible. Read some Bible scriptures each day also, and if you want to talk to the Lord at that time, go to Him in prayer at once.

There is another well-known organization that is non-Christian, called 'Alcoholics Anonymous,' where they talk about a 'higher power.' Be very sure your higher power is the God of the Universe. That is why I am convinced that a Christian treatment program for alcohol addiction and drug abuse is the best program of all. Call on a therapist, Pastor or a Minister in your church if you feel alone or lost. Also, you can always go to Jesus Christ in prayer at any time. Remember, He is omnipotent, and is always ready to come to you.

I want to tell you a short story about my daughter, who had been an alcoholic for some time. After she quit drinking, she still had another bad habit - smoking. She tried all of the known and advertised products, like gum, pills and many others. We did not allow smoking in our house at that time, so she would sit on the back steps and smoke. Finally, I followed her outside to the back steps, and there she sat with her hands raised in prayer, without a cigarette. She then told me nothing worked except the Lord, who helped her get rid of another addiction. She has not smoked since that day. Now, I praise the Lord for her every day of my life.
