Alec Baldwin Gets Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series at the SAG Awards

On Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, actors gathered for the 17th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards to see who the winners would be.

The atmosphere at the SAG Awards this year was one of high energy, as the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series was announced.

The nominees in this category were Alec Baldwin in "30 Rock," Ty Burrell for "Modern Family," Steve Carell in "The Office," Chris Colfer for "Glee," and Ed O'Neill also for "Modern Family."

The nominees all laughed as their clips were played and appeared to be very light-hearted. They all clapped and applauded when Alec Baldwin was announced the winner in the nominated category.

Mr. Baldwin gave a huge jaw drop and quickly stood. There were lots of hugs given all around while the audience gave a roaring applause. Baldwin appeared genuinely surprised, even though this was his fifth consecutive win for his performance in "30 Rock."

In his acceptance speech, he proclaimed that he was "so happy" and didn't appear to have prepared anything for a speech.

"I don't know what to say," he said at the beginning. No matter about that, though; he said his many thanks, grabbed his award and exited the stage.

I wish someone else had won. Alec has had a good run but enough is enough. Chris, Ed or Ty should have won. I love Steve Carell but he's been dialing it in this year. Short timers syndrome, I guess.

Anyway, I can see why major networks don't carry the SAG awards like they do the Golden Globes and such. Pretty boring show, especially with wins like this one.
