Alex Rodriguez, Paul Konerko and Chris Davis: Fantasy Baseball Position Players in the American League to Drop

B J Abel
With almost half of the Fantasy Baseball season over hanging on to one of your top Fantasy Baseball picks just to save face in your league can almost guarantee a lost season. Ignoring where you drafted a player and looking at your team with a clean perspective is essential. We have enough games behind our belt this season to help us make some tough decisions in our Fantasy Baseball Leagues. Here is a list of the top three players in the American League that have been a bust off of their expectations and should be dropped in all formats of Fantasy Baseball.

Alex Rodriguez (NYY) - Alex Rodriguez has been a huge disappointment for any Fantasy Baseball owner who drafted him high despite his 2 month delayed start due to injury. After exploding back into the Fantasy world with a Home Run on the first pitch he saw, Alex has come back to Earth hard. Hitting in the low 200's Rodriguez is batting the lowest in his career with no vision of it turning around anytime soon. Dropping Rodriguez is probably not an option but their probably is a Yankee fan in your Fantasy League you could trade him to and at least get something that will produce this year.

Paul Konerko (CWS) - Konerko has not been having a terrible season by a long shot but this nagging injury to his thumb can only put him not only at risk for the DL but even worse affect his hitting for the entire season if he doesn't get the surgery needed prior. Hand injuries are very scary, especially when they are "manned through" instead of fixed.

Chris Davis (TEX) - Chris Davis has been a huge disappointment this season even after his breakout year in '08. Fantasy owners expected at least an upper .280 average but have been shocked with barley over .200 performance. Davis has hit for power but that's about it. His Home run total is on pace for 30 but his strikeouts are on the rise, which is difficult when you were already at a high ratio. He is nearing Ryan Howard territory without the upside. If you can afford Davis' pull on your average you've probably already won your fantasy Baseball league, if not Drop him the first chance you get.

Anyone who expected an uppder .280 average on Davis is an idiot. .260 was a reasonable expectation for him.
