Alexa Ray Joel, Suicide Attempt. She is the Daughter of Billy Joel and Christine Brinkley

According to the Huffington Post, Alexa Ray Joel, 23, took a handful of pills in an apparent suicide attempt on Saturday. Alexa Joel is the only daughter of Billy Joel and Christine Brinkley. Police sources report that she was rushed to the hospital after making a 911 call from her West Village apartment at about 12:30 pm.

Alexa Joel told paramedics that she had taken eight pills and that she was having trouble breathing. She was reported stable a few hours after being brought in to the hospital.

Law enforcement officials reported the overdose appeared to be done intentionally.

Christie Brinkley arrived at the hospital about 4 pm to be by her daughter's side. Billy Joel remained in contact by phone with the hospital, but remained at home in Long Island, so his presence did not start a media frenzy at the hospital.

Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley ended their 9 year marriage in 1994. Alexa Joel is the spitting image of her famous "piano man" father, Billy Joel, baring very little resemblance to her famous mother. This beautiful young woman with a life among the superstars is yet another young talent who apparently had become depressed. Thankfully it was not too late for her. There has been no comment from either parent at this time.

Alexa Joel had a break up with her boyfriend a few years ago and friends say she has never gotten over this. She has been an "emotional wreck" since the split. Jimmy Riot, a former band mate and first love of the singer, Alexa, was the boyfriend she cannot get over.

Alexa Joel has suffered with depression over the breakup.

Sources say the Alexa has had a hard time with her mother's much published split up with last husband and her father marrying a girl almost her age.

Alexa Joel has struggled in the shadow of her famous parents trying to find her own niche in this world. Her music career is still at the beginning stages. She does have a new single out called "Invisible".

Postings on her My Space page may be some indication of how she had been feeling lately. She describes herself as someone who likes to stay home and hates the act of dating. She said she wished she was in a relationship with a nice guy. "I don't like going out drinking to meet men" she writes about the club scene.

Billy Joel said in an interview last year that he made a suicide attempt when he was in his early 20's during a time of failed musical attempts along with life factors.
