Alexis Cohen Dies: Video Popular

Alexis Cohen, a former auditioner for American Idol, died earlier today as a result of being hit by car. Alexis Cohen rose to fame in past seasons as "glitter girl" as a result of wearing glitter make up on her face during the course of her American Idol auditions. Alexis Cohen appeared during this past year and was once again denied the opportunity to continue on to the coveted Hollywood weekend.

Alexis Cohen became known for her rant following her denial on the show, which cameras caught following her exit from the audition room. The blow up by Alexis Cohen made for the kid of video that the show just can't get enough of during the early audition weeks. Alexis Cohen made sure that they were not going to forget her. It certainly wasn't going to be made easy. Alexis Cohen returned several times to audition for American Idol and unfortunately, was unsuccessful with each go.

Unfortunately for Alexis Cohen, she probably fell into the category of those auditioners who truly felt that they deserved to advance but were either too removed or too excited to see that they just were not of the right caliber for the show. That's not to say that Alexis Cohen could not have been successful elsewhere, but clearly, American Idol was not to be her stage.

Yet, despite Alexis Cohen not being successful on the show, the video captured of her still gave her significant attention. Enough so that she is talked about on this sad day. It is quite a testament to what has happened with reality television that somebody such as Alexis Cohen is still spoken about within the confines of entertainment news. Certainly she went on to do other things. Certainly she was probably more successful in other ventures. However, the fact that we still discuss Alexis Cohen, that former auditioner who gave American Idol a good piece of her mind, goes to show the extent to which celebrity can be both manipulated and created.

Clearly it is not longer the achievement in the arts that matters when considering what constitutes an individual worthy of attention. We have obviously passed into a void where the mere presence of the individual themselves or the creation of the individual is the entertainment. Celebrity has become available to the masses. Entertainment, like beauty, has become solely in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps, people like Alexis Cohen, will be a little better off because of it. Regardless, I'm sure Alexis Cohen will be missed.
