Alexis Grace Cut from "American Idol's" Top Ten on Wednesday, March 18, 2009

There, but for the Grace of (Alexis) Grace, Went Either Michael Sarver or Allison Iraheto

Well, I hate to be the one to say "I told you so," but I did predict (in an article that bears the date December 31, 1969 for some strange reason I have yet to figure out, although it was written and posted on March 17th, 2009!) that Alexis Grace might be in Big Trouble this week. She was, in fact, cut from the top eleven on "American Idol's" Wednesday, March 18, 2009 results show.

Alexis was given a chance to " sing for her supper" (again) and prove that she should receive a "Judge's Save," but "Jolene" was just not the right song for her. Alexis stood out ("Dirty Diana") as a tough badass Pat Benatar-type with her blonde hair with pink highlights, and "Jolene" is not a song I could see Pat Benatar doing well with...nor did Alexis do well with it either Tuesday or Wednesday.

The bottom three were announced in an odd way from the 31 million votes cast nationwide. Alexis Grace and Michael Sarver were both brought down front, and Alexis was given the bad news first. Michael, naturally (like the rest of us), thought he was "safe" after Alexis was put on alert. He was not. Those 2, plus red-headed Allison Iraheto were the bottom three, and Adam Lambert was dissed (again) by Simon for his unusual version of "Ring of Fire" and we were made to feel that Adam was "on the cusp" of extinction. Had Adam been voted off, a Judges' save would have been merited, but mean as it may have seemed to some, Alexis did not have the chops last night (St. Patrick's Day) or tonight.

The other girl I thought might have some trouble was Megan Corkrey, but the sympathy vote would naturally accrue to a singer who had to go to the hospital with "Type B" flu prior to performing. She was shaky, yes, but there was a good excuse is possibly the way voters figured it in forgiving her some shaky notes.

Also, this night, Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis performed together. Carrie wore an attractive red dress, but she had a black thing in her shorter-than-usual blonde hair that looked like a large spider had crawled there to die. Odd.

Next week, President Obama pre-empts the Tuesday night show, so "Idol" will be on Wednesday and Thursday, instead of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Neither Michael Sarver nor Alexis Grace was "safe," in contrast to the way previous low-ranking contestants have been booted off.

It does not sound like a fun evening. Thanks for the update; I'm glad I didn't watch.
