Alexis Grace Stars on American Idol's Feb. 17 Show

The Night of Surprises, Yawns and What Were They Thinking?

The first American Idol group on Feb. 17 has sung their songs and, afterward, there was a long yawn.

It started out with Jackie jumping around like an unhinged dancer, and for me the performance did not match her song choice. The girl has a great gritty voice but I fear it will not appeal to the general masses. And that really is what Idol is about; a one singer fits all. We went from herky jerky to boring. Ricky Braddy is a good singer but for me he was just boring and bland, kind of like tapioca.

Then I was hit sideways by a Alexis Grace, who blew me -- and I am sure a few others -- away. She was for me the best out of them all. She carried her song all the way and literally gave me a few chills. Loved it, loved her.

Stevie Wright has been a favorite since I watched her audition she is likable. But tonight her song choice was a "what was she thinking?" I really felt bad for her but then again she is really young and is still discovering her style.

Who does not like Anoop Desai? I think he is an amazing singer. I would like to hear him dig deeper and hear more from him.

Ann Marie sang "You Make Me Feel like a Natural Woman." It was good but uneventful.

I could not believe it when Stephen Fowler sang "Rock with You". It made me think of singing in your car to a song you like, but you don't get up on stage and sing it in front of millions. Stephen can sing but I think it would be interesting to hear him sing something edgy and alternative.

Tatiana Del Toro was the one I dreaded watching again. She drove me nuts with her unnerving laughter, tears and hysterics. But I have to say and please forgive me, but if this contest is all about singing then I have to say the girl can definitely sing.

Danny Gokey did not disappoint, he was wonderful and even though his story is heartbreaking, I really believe he would still be where he is without it and I wish it was so. I have three favorites all based strictly on singing ability Alexis Grace, Tatiana Del Toro, and Danny Gokey. Best of luck to all!
