Alexis Neiers Gets 6 Months in Los Angeles County Jail (Video Link)

Alexis Neiers, the 18-year-old woman who told Vanity Fair that she is "wholesome and down to earth" entered a "no contest" plea to the charge of felony residential burglary.

The particular residence pertinent to Alexis' no contest plea belonged to "Pirates of the Carribean" star, Orlando Bloom, who was only one of many famous celebrities targeted by the group known as the "bling ring." Other famous names who were hit included Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Audrina Patridge and Rachel Bilson. The "bling ring" made off with valuables worth more than $3 million.

As you can see in the video below, Alexis says she's just a normal teenage girl "into shoes and handbags," but neglected to mention that she meant other people's shoes and handbags.

Testimony in the case revealed that investigators found Rachel Bilson's Marc Jacobs handbag as well as a black and white Chanel necklace belonging to Lindsay Lohan's in Alexis Neiers' younger sister's bedroom.

Neiers initially tried selling the "I was drunk when it happened excuse." While the prosecution wasn't swallowing the "I can't remember so I'm not responsible" , they were willing to concede that the teenager played a minor role in the entire affair. Neiers' attorney said: "We decided it was in Alexis' best interests to take responsibiilty for her small part in this incident." He also said the knowledge that Orlando Bloom would testify against Alexis was a factor in the defense's decision. If convicted at trial, Alexis could have been incarcerated for 6 years. That was undoubtedly a factor as well.

Under the arrangement struck with prosecutors, Alexis Neiers has to trade in her designer togs for prison garb for 6 months. According to the L.A. County Jail website: "One of the nice things about the Los Angeles County Jail is that inmates don't have to wear a jumpsuit - they wear scrubs like doctors wear. General Population inmates wear blue scrubs ... Women wear scrubs also, but theirs are a light blue color."

She also gets 3 years probation and a 2 year suspended sentence. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza warned Ms. Neiers that a probation violation would earn her 2 years in jail. She was further ordered to pay restitution to Orlando Bloom and to stay 100 yards away from the actor's home in the Hollywood Hills. She has to surrender on June 24 to begin serving the 6 months.

In my day girls shoplifted sweaters from dept stores. What's next? Luxury car theft, maybe.

I have a feeling she's in for a real eye opening experience in jail even if she's wearing scrubs instead of a jumpsuit.

Why in heaven's name did VANITY FAIR interview this minor thief? Or is she a minor thief with acting aspirations or something?

  • Jack Aiello5/11/2010

Unbelievable. I know I sound like a fuddy duddy, but don't kids have better things to do than get involved in asinine "bling rings"?

I had never heard of this, but jail sounds like a good place for her.
