Alfalfa Club Dinner Attracts Barack Obama, Sarah Palin

Gary Davis
ABC News' "Political Punch" reports that Governor Sarah Palin will be in attendance at the Alfalfa Club Dinner. As the article, "Palin to attend Alfalfa Club Dinner (President Obama Will Be There Too)," goes on to say, there are only about 200 members in this club.

While Palin is purportedly going as an Alaska representative, she said on a personal note that she would not want to miss this opportunity to have dinner with the President.

It should be remembered however that Palin has just set up the power structure for her potential run at the presidency.

What is the "Alfalfa Club?"

The Alfalfa Club is a very small exclusive club in Washington D.C. It has an annual $200 per plate dinner and each member can bring two guests. Their big event is that they nominate a fake candidate for the President. George Bush attended at one time.

I managed to get into an exclusive club in 1975. While it was not a country club, we did have a specially trained chef who made great food and we had an annual dinner called the "Washington Day Banquet." In fact, around 1977 our guest was none other than John Madden. He had not yet ascended to the popularity he has today but he was popular.

After a few months I found that wasn't what I wanted and I resigned but I will say I sure dropped some money.

I would be interested in knowing who invited Governor Palin. And, I'd be interested just how serious Palin is about going after the Presidency and what she is trying to accomplish by attending this dinner.

I have to admit something. I wonder why it is that we spend so much time covering this particular occurrence or occurrences like this. Obama has a number of very serious issues to deal with yet, we're watching him go to an exclusive dinner and monitor the fact that Palin is attending there as well.

I don't know what the various motivations are for attending this exclusive dinner. I think the best thing I can do is go to my living room and prepare it for the day of The Super Bowl so I can watch Arizona beat Pittsburgh...oops!
