Alice in Wonderland Cosmetic Themes: OPI and Urban Decay

Will You Be 'Mad as a Hatter' for These Products?

Alexis Valentine
If you haven't heard, Tim Burton has done a remake of the classic "Alice in Wonderland." This remake features an all star cast of Helena Bonham Carte as The Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, Michael Sheen as The White Rabbit, Alan Rickman as The Caterpillar, and it wouldn't quite be a Tim Burton movie without Johnny Depp, who plays The Mad Hatter. This "Alice in Wonderland" remake will introduce a whole new generation to one of the classics, and probably one of my top ten favorite childhood stories. In anticipation of the movie OPI, the brand most well known for their nail lacquer, and the avant-garde cosmetic brand Urban Decay, has both come out with their own "Alice in Wonderland" themed products.

Currently OPI's "Alice in Wonderland" collection is available at Trade Secrets, some Sephora stores and some ULTA stores. It's best to check with your local beauty stores to see if they have them in stock, or have gotten them in at all. I happen to live in a city that doesn't have a Sephora, and my only local ULTA has yet to get in the new line. At present there are only four shades of nail lacquer, each one selling from $7.50-$9 a bottle. In this collection there are two shades of red, a glittery blue, and a purple shade with flecks of gold, silver, blue and red. As with all of OPI's nail lacquers they of course come with cute names like, "Off with Her Red," "Thanks So Muchness," "Absolutely Alice," and "Mad as a Hatter." I'd like to see Johnny Depp rock that last one. I wouldn't doubt that he'd be willing to try too. If you're hesitant on spending $8 a bottle for nail polish then I'd suggest picking up their mini collection which comes with all four shades in mini version for around $13.

One beauty product that I'm absolutely ecstatic about is the Urban Decay limited edition, pop-up "Alice in Wonderland" Book of Shadows. As if my Urban Decay addiction wasn't bad enough. I can hear my wallet beginning to sob already, and this item won't be available until January 15. Since the product is yet to be available I'm unsure of the price, but I'm guessing it's roughly the same as their other Book of Shadows which run from $36 to $39. Urban Decay's "Alice in Wonderland" Book of Shadows does come with more products so it's possible the price may run slightly higher. I still think it's well worth the money considering the quality and all that comes in this nifty little gift set.

Urban Decay's "Alice in Wonderland" Book of Shadows comes with sixteen of their best selling shades of eyeshadows, but renamed to fit with the theme. It also comes with two mini versions of their 24/7 eye pencils, and a mini Eyeshadow Primer Potion. All of this is packaged in a cute 3-D pop-up scene of Alice in the mushroom forest. This Book of Shadows should be available where Urban Decay products are sold.

As for the movie, "Alice in Wonderland" is set to hit theaters on March 5, 2010. As much as my wallet is protesting I'm very eager to get my hands on both products. So my question is, will you be picking up your Wonderland goodies?
