Alicia Keys' As I Am Album Review

Has Alicia Found Her Peak?

The Reviewer
It has been four years since the release of Alicia Keys' last studio album, The Diary Of Alicia Keys. In the time between studio albums, Alicia released a very successful MTV Unplugged album and appeared in several movies including The Nanny Diaries and Smokin' Aces. Now, Alicia is back with her third studio album, As I Am. Will Alicia be able to maintain her status as one of the biggest artists in the world?

The first single off of As I Am is No One. The track was produced by Alicia Keys, Kerry Brothers and Dirty Harry. The song is a solid R&B mid-tempo track. The song is successful for Alicia currently in the top 5 of the Billboard Top 100. The song is fairly solid but just does not have the magic of her previous singles. Not to say No One is a bad song but it just is not as strong as other singles.

The second single is Like You'll Never See Me Again. The track is also produced by Alicia Keys and Kerry Brothers. The song is a definitely Prince inspired mid-tempo ballad. The song is catchy and very melodically driven. The song grows on you after multiple listens. The song finds Alicia capitalizing on a very rarely breathy vocal style until she shows one of her strongest vocal performances later in the song.

Go Ahead is a collaboration between Alicia, Kerry Brothers, Marsha Ambrosius and Mark Baston. The song is a very solid neo-soul track. The song sounds like it is more Jill Scott than Alicia Keys but it is solid.

Lesson Learned is a bluesy ballad featuring John Mayer. The track is one of the better songs on the album. The track is one of the best songs on the album. The song is very melodic and extremely catchy.

Wreckless Love is a 70's era ballad. The track is very jazzy and very instrument heavy. The track is good but not a standout.

On Sure Looks Good To Me Alicia is joined by songwriter Linda Perry. The song is one of the strongest tracks on the album. The song should definitely be a single off of this album.

The Thing About Love is another very strong ballad. The song finds Alicia once again joined by Linda Perry. The song showcases Alicia's vocal ability and her ability to convey emotion in songs.

As I Am is a good album. It is hard to compete with her previous successes, yet Alicia Keys delivers a very solid album. As I Am gets 7.5 out of 10 stars. If you are a fan of Alicia Keys, make sure you pick up her new album As I Am when it is available in stores on November 13.
