Alien Planet

Fear made every nerve in Remmy's young body tingle as if an electric current was coursing through his veins. He followed the group of military personnel. No one was giving him any clues as to what they were planning to do with him. When he woke up aboard the space vehicle the ship was ablaze and smoke was everywhere. Remmy had been yanked out of the ruins by some very rough hands. Those hands belonged to the very aliens who were now leading him down a brightly lit, but cold hallway. His father was nowhere to be found and Remmy presumed that he either had been taken elsewhere or died in the crash. Everything he'd passed so far had been strange and new to him, including the aliens that were escorting him. He had known the inhabitants of this planet were going to be bipeds but did not know that they would look so much like his own kind. It was almost comforting. Almost.

The military group placed him in a stark bare room with only a chair in the center. They left him there alone. A few minutes later more aliens, dressed in white lab coats came in. They poked him with needles, drew blood from his arm and took his blood pressure. Blinded him with a light in each of his eyes and peered into his ears and mouth. He felt like he was being examined for a medical procedure! Still no one said a word to him. They left as quickly as they came.

Time ticked slowly by and then a smartly dressed military man burst in.

"Welcome Remmy." The military man boomed, his voice loud but strangely reassuring. "I know you must feel very confused right now, but we were expecting you and your father. I am sorry to say that your father did not make it. Your vehicle was not supposed to crash." He paused, letting the words sink in to Remmy's brain.

"Nevertheless we had arrangements already made for the two of you and we only had to adjust them slightly to accommodate you by yourself. For your first few months here you will have a dedicated group of staff who will help you adapt to your new home. We understand you were a science protégé like your father and look forward to having you join the other scientists here. What you may not realize is that everyone here at this facility is like yourself. We all came from the home planet at a young age and were integrated into this planet's population without their knowing." Remmy let out an involuntary gasp. The military man smiled. "Follow me Remmy."

Remmy obeyed. All this was too much and he didn't know what to say. They exited the room through a different door and straight ahead on the wall was sign that read

"WELCOME to EARTH"
"SCIENCE FACILITY 51"

Very cool story! I had an entry "The Christmas Wish" and I know there is a thread in the forums where many have posted links to theirs. (I saw your comment about a list of entrants on another article)
