Alienware is Still Very Good: Area-51 M15x

Alienware products and all of computer gaming simply go hand in hand. Remember the first Alienware desktop that made it big? Well, all that high-tech gaming power is now being condensed into a laptop form. The Alienware Area-51 m15x is one of the fastest laptops ever introduced to the gaming community, but let's take a look at the technical parts of why it is so good.

The m15x is one of few laptops that comes with a prebuilt-in, hearty 4 GB of RAM and 200 GB hard drive. Obviously, these two are essential in the purpose of this laptop. It's 2.8 GHz processor from Intel is also top of the line; it trumps most, if not all, processors found in the common office desktop. Weighing in at 7.1 lbs, the m15x is also a tiny bit heavier than most would expect, and also a tiny bit thicker than most other laptops would be. To round all of this out, it's 15 inch screen is perfect for gamers who like to see the game's true colors, because the resolution is one of the brightest and highest in the market.

There are two problems that can be seen in all of this. First off, this thing costs $4000. If you somehow get this, it's either because you got it free, love games, love Alienware, and/or have a lot of money. The second is the battery consumption. As a hardcore gamer blasts out on Bioshock on the highest resolution with the brightest color settings, the battery's working very hard. Coupled with an AIM client, Skype or Ventrilo, Firefox, iTunes, and wifi, Bioshock has instantly created a situation where the battery is now absolutely in full use. If you're replicating this situation unplugged, I would give you about two to three hours. Unless you are indeed plugged up into an outlet, batteries will not hold up. Many people will not encounter the latter problem. Many people in general will not because of the price tag. Alienware's Area-51 m15x heads the latest technological revolution where gaming laptops will surpass the "averagely pimped" desktop, even when prebuilt. However, it's not surprising that these laptops will put heavy tolls on the laptop batteries. We, as consumers, will wait for more efficient batteries to be developed, so we can finally run all the programs we want and Bioshock, and not have to deal with the power problems.
