All American Handyman - the "American Idol" for Home Improvement Enthusiasts

First, it was the best singer. Then it was the best dancer. Then came the next top model. Now it will be the next great...handyman? That's right ladies and gentleman. Reality T.V. has done it again with the premier of a new show called All American Handyman. The season premiere begins on Sunday, September 5th 2010 at 9:00pm on HGTV. If you have a passion for home improvement and do-it-yourself television shows, you can now have just as much fun as the rest of the world.

The show will be hosted by Molly Culver and will feature celebrity judges Mike Holmes and Scott McGillivray. There will be 20 contestants that will have to prove to these guys that they deserve the title as America's best handyman. This will not be easy to do because both Mike Holmes and Scott McGillivray are no nonsense handymen. Mike Holmes has more of an "edge" than Scott McGillivray but they are both very detailed and they will notice if something is not built, repaired, or installed correctly.

The 20 contestants will be given a series of tasks to complete. Not only do they have to complete the tasks, they have to do so under the supervision of the celebrity judges. This will be very tough to do because we all know it's difficult to work well when someone is watching you closely. The contestants that cannot take the pressure will face elimination. The last contestant standing that has the most knowledge and the best skills will be the winner of the title "All American Handyman". The winner will receive a $10,000 Sears prize package and a development opportunity from HGTV.

There is no doubt that this show will get lots of viewers. The reality T.V. formula has worked for many years and it will continue to work for many years to come. Viewers are drawn to the real lives of regular people. Actors, sitcoms, dramas and soap operas are fine but they are no match for real fights, real laughter, real tears and real embarrassment. There is something addictive about reality T.V. It keeps people on edge.

It is especially true for this kind of reality show. Shows like All American Handyman, American Idol, Dancing With The Stars and the like are competition shows. It is like watching a very long game show. It is easy to become attached to the contestants and its not unusual to feel bad when they make a mistake. If you happen to pick a favorite contestant, you become really hooked and the chances of you watching every episode will increase by 200%.

Reality shows are not new for the home improvement industry. It has been this way ever since the show "This Old House" with Bob Vila. Every show on HGTV is a reality show. However, this time, they have taken the American Idol format and turned home construction into a talent competition. This will be very fun to watch. It will be interesting to see how things turn out.
