All About Being Addicted to the Rubik's Cube

The Rubik's cube, invented in 1974 by Erno Rubik, is a puzzle game with six sides and nine stickers on each side. The object of the game is to get each side to be the same color. It is truly a puzzle and is known as the world's best-selling toy. The thing is, this puzzle is extremely complicated and frustrates many that try to complete it. Those that can get usually feel very proud of this achievement. The thing both of these people have in common is that neither can put down the toy. It is not a toy for an age group either as both young and old seem to be addicted to finishing a cube once they start. This a first-hand experience. I have seen and experienced myself how tough it is to put down this "toy". My personal conclusion is as follows:

Those who can't finish the cube refuse to put down the cube. They always seem to be determined to finish the cube no matter what happens, especially when they have just seen it completed by another. This is simply the human ego showing here. We are so high on ourselves sometimes that we refuse to stop until we achieve what we are trying to and the cube is a major achievement people work for. I have seen friends of many challenge that they can complete a cube and I have watched them throw away countless hours trying, but making little progress. This addiction is powered our will and determination to persist to complete what we start when it is fun. The funny thing: we get so frustrated and so angry when we spend all this time trying to complete a cube, but we always seem to eventually pick it back up and spend another few hours trying to solve the cube. The classic Rubik addiction to the Rubik's cube... for those who cannot complete it.

Those who can complete it have another addiction. We (I say this because I am one who has finished the cube) usually have many reasons to keep doing the cube and adding to our addiction. We usually are proud enough in what we've done that we have to show it off to others kick-starting their addiction. We are also human, and humans are always trying to better themselves. This applies to cubers as we try to finish faster and faster. Often, for me and many others I know who can complete a cube, we will pick up a cube just to stay fresh, but there we are hours later still playing with the cube, even if in that period of time we have done it multiple times. We think we can just do the cube once, but it never happens as we complete it and scramble it just to complete it again without even thinking about it.

In all, the addiction to the Rubik's cube causes many of us to lose sleep, but that is no problem. The feeling of accomplishment after you complete the cube is a great feeling and you can then begin you're second phase of the Rubik addiction: the bettering phase. You will want to show off and it will cause others to want to complete the cube starting their addiction and beginning another circle and generation of Rubik's cube addicts.
