All About Birthstones

Norma Chew
Birthstones are fascinating.
The popularity of wearing birthstones began in Poland during the 15th or 16th century. Historically, it was believed that the effects of the benefits of wearing birthstones were increased during the specific month that corresponded with that birthstone. So, everyone would wear the birthstone of the month to get its full effect.

Gem scholars agree that birthstones arose from the breast plate of Aarons: This is a ceremonial religious garment set with twelve gemstones that represented the twelve tribes of Israel and corresponded with the twelve signs of the zodiac and the twelve months of the year.
