All My Children and One Life to Live Saved

Both Series to Continue Online

Fans of cancelled ABC soaps All My Children and One Life to Live can breathe a sigh of relief. ABC officially announced today that both shows will continue online at the end of their televised runs.

In April of this year, ABC announced the cancellations of both shows, with All My Children ending this September and One Life to Live in January 2012. These dates are still in effect, but only for their televised runs on ABC and SOAPnet. Instead of disappearing completely, they will move to the Internet.

After turning down more than one offer to buy the two soaps and preserve the legacy, ABC has finally reached an agreement that will allow them to continue. The catch is that they will only be available online.

Prospect Park will produce the new online shows. Episodes of both series will be the same length as the televised ones but will instead appear on a new online network. The details are still being worked out, and more information will be available at a later date.

At this point, there is no news regarding which stars will join the online productions, especially considering the fact that many either chose to leave early or were terminated because of the cancellations. In addition, the two series are currently produced on two different coasts.

Fans are anxious to find out whether their favorite stars and the characters they portray will join the online productions. One good way to find out what the stars are thinking and planning is to follow them on Twitter. Many of the stars have Twitter accounts and enjoy providing frequent updates.

This announcement is good news for fans with the desire and ability to watch these series on their computers or mobile devices. It also means that members of the cast and crew will not lose their jobs due to the network's decision to cancel the show.

However, many fans probably won't continue to watch All My Children and One Life to Live once they begin airing online. Not everyone enjoys watching "television" on computers or handheld devices. Others either don't have online access or have slow connections or older equipment that make viewing web series difficult if not impossible. For these fans, ABC's announcement is bittersweet.

I use to be a huge fan of AMC. I'd rush home every day for lunch and then rush back to the office (that was before VCRs)! I haven't watched it in years tho.
