What Happened on Tuesday's Episode

Eliza Wynn

All My Children's final week on broadcast television continued on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. This episode deals mostly with Erica, her new book, and her daughters' reactions to what they perceive as an invasion of privacy. Other developments include Griffin's change of heart, JR's refusal to back down, and Zach and Ryan's new venture. This episode contains several soliloquys, when a character speaks directly to the viewers instead of to other characters.

Griffin is displeased to see JR at the lab. He orders JR to leave, which doesn't go well. Believing that Babe is the patient, JR tries to get to her. They fight, and Griff grabs a needle and jabs him. When JR wakes up on the lab floor, Griffin and the patient are gone.

Zach and Kendall are hosting a family barbecue. While there, Jackson takes care of some legal work for Zach and Ryan, who are establishing the Myrtle Fargate Foundation together. Ryan is also now free of Cambias.

Kendall and Bianca talk about Erica's book, and they aren't happy about it; they think it reveals too much about their own lives. Meanwhile, Jackson keeps trying to reach Erica, but his calls go straight to voicemail, so he takes off to look for her. Leaving Zach and Kendall to watch the kids, Ryan and Greenlee go grocery shopping, and Bianca and Marissa go to Krystal's to buy chili.

Erica is unavailable because she's meeting with Kit Sterling to discuss the movie, Erica Kane: Uncensored. The next step is to get a screenwriter, but until then, Kit wants more information about Erica's history. Even though it's in her book, he wants to hear it straight from her. To start, he asks about her relationship with Kendall.

Turning to the viewers, Erica says Kit really wants to hear about when Kendall revealed her true identity. Breaking Kendall's heart and telling her how she was conceived was the hardest thing Erica ever had to do. Fortunately, they've come a long way since then, and now Erica doesn't know what she'd do without Kendall.

Kit then asks about Bianca. Erica tells the audience about when Bianca came out as a lesbian. Even though she didn't show it at the time, Erica was very impressed and proud of her daughter.

Kendall and Zach talk about having a clean slate, and Zach makes jokes about Clean Slater. He apologizes for having issued an ultimatum about leaving Pine Valley, but she understands. He soliloquizes about his near-death experience and says that Erica had better not mess things up for him and his family.

Telling David that he found his lab, JR demands to know where Babe is, and when he insults Marissa, David calls for the guard. JR grabs David and threatens him. David vows that JR will never see Babe again.

While waiting for their order at Krystal's, Marissa excuses herself to go to the ladies' room. JR shows up and demands to know where Marissa and A.J. are. Bianca tries unsuccessfully to reason with him, and when Marissa returns and says their son is safe, JR asks who's keeping her safe. Storming out, he lurks outside and follows them when they leave.

Shifting gears, Kit asks about the men is Erica's life. Erica informs him that Jackson is the only one who lasted, despite his public betrayal of her when he testified that she shouldn't have custody of Bianca. Almost on cue, Jack interrupts them to remind Erica about the barbecue. Erica had no idea it was getting to be so late!

Back at the barbecue, Bianca says that Natalie Portman should play her in the movie and wonders who should play her sister. Kendall mentions several names, ending with Sarah Michelle Gellar. "Sarah Michelle would be good," Bianca replies. This is a fun inside joke, since Gellar originated the role of Kendall.

When Erica and Jackson arrive at the house, Kendall and Bianca corner their mom to express their concerns. Bianca tries to be diplomatic, but Kendall ends up ordering Erica to respect their privacy. That obviously doesn't set well with the diva.

Bianca suggests that they might feel differently if Erica had talked to them about this first. Erica is offended by the idea of needing their permission to write the story of her own life. Zach tries to defuse the situation by announcing that it's time to eat. The adults go outside, leaving the kids in the living room. JR sneaks inside and calls A.J. over to him. When Erica finds them, she orders him to leave now, but he argues and threatens her. Zach appears and ushers him out the door.

When JR gets back to his room, he flies into a rage. He picks up the gun. Then he looks toward the doorway and sees Babe standing there looking at him sadly.

Erica gets into it with her daughters again, so Zach announces that Ryan wants to propose a toast. This is news to Ryan, who plays along and then returns the "favor." To keep the peace, Kendall and Bianca decide to give their mom the benefit of the doubt but vow to let her know if they're not happy about something.

A musical montage shows important scenes in the lives of the Kanes, Slaters, and Laverys.

It's so cool reading your AMC articles. I use to be an avid fan - rushing home for lunch each day to catch as much as I could. I haven't watched it in years and years, but so many of the characters are still the same. Thanks for the memories!
