All Creatures, Furry and All

MJ
People who've known me for a long time, are by now used to my house being practically overrun by animals. I love people, but I find I have to do a lot of talking to make myself to be understood. Not that I mind that, but in the body-language department I find that we humans are sorely lacking.

So I communicate a lot better with animals at times. I don't have to say a thing to them and I'm completely understood. The animals don't have to say anything back to me and our communication goes practically in silence. Although they find me a bit of a poor equipped animal I feel. My eyes can't see enough in the day; and at night I couldn't catch a prey even if my life was depending on it.

Their ears prick up even when someone is walking in the next street, whereas I wouldn't know if a burglar was trying to open the door with a chainsaw.

When I walk I make an awful lot of noise even when I wear my slippers. Most animals thread softly because if you're a hunter you can't have noise chasing the prey away.

Their skin is wonderfully covered with an insulating fur; warm in winter and cool in summer. Mine is smooth: cold in winter and warm in summer. They don't sweat ; I do in summer. Some animals keep themselves clean, others need some help from humans. I keep myself busy for hours with taking showers, dressing, brushing teeth, washing clothes, drying clothes etc.

Their muscles are built for whatever purpose the animal was intended. These are usually kept in perfect condition. Mine are only used to lift the weekly grocery-bags out of the car, and are probably wasted by now.

Aren't we poor equipped in comparison? But there's one thing I am good at, according to them, and that's why I have hands. I know how to use the can opener!
