All that DRAMA!

What Men Really Want to Know...Question 4

Jode
Q: Why do women like soap operas and not WWE?

For starters, not all women like soap operas and not all women dislike professional wrestling. So, let's just get that stereotype out of the way. However, I am part of the stereotype. Love soaps, hate wrestling. Granted both have cheesy acting, outrageous ongoing plots, and lots of fights, but there has to be a difference. Otherwise, why would I like one and not the other? Well, I think I narrowed it down to a simple explanation: in wrestling, the men are rarely fighting over a woman!

You see, in a good soap opera, the man generally gets into a fight to defend his woman's honor, or to keep the other guy from stealing her away. They also get involved in fights and drama to "save" the woman from a disaster she has put herself in. If the fight in a soap opera starts between the men for another reason, it is usually over business or money. This is also plausible for a woman because the men usually resort to some sort of devious plot, something his woman can help out with whe she finds out. Why wouldn't she want to help him keep his millions so she can spend it later?

In wrestling, the men are usually fighting to prove who is better or to protect their honor or pride. Occasionally the men fight over the girl, but not as often. They fight to prove who is the best. And, as much as I hate to admit this, us women just don't care to watch a fight if we don't think it is over us. There is nothing romantic in it at all. Quite egocentric, yes, but true. If you men were honest, you would admit that it also turns you on when a woman is willing to fight over you, too.

Also, in wrestling, their is never the devious plot for women to relate to. Yes, they may plan how to ambush the other guy, but they do not play mental games. Women like the mental games just as much, if not more, than just the fights. I constantly hear men say how women plot and scheme. Well, they do this all of the time in soaps, only on a much more extreme level. This extreme level makes us feel a little more normal. When we see the crazy way they act, we feel great about our lives. All they do in wrestling is scream, then fight, something that does not make us feel better about ourselves.

There is also no romance in wrestling. In soaps, after the guy gets into a fight, he brings home flowers and dances. He whispers sweet nothings and tells her how he will never let another man steal her away. In wrestling, well, just no romance.

The final reason for me preferring soaps over wrestling is a matter of taste, so this is not true of all women. I just don't like big, muscle bound men. I've never been attracted to them, and the vast majority of them don't even have a nice face to back it up. Also, I can't stand to watch a man act hard in speedos. There is nothing tough or menacing about speedos with boots. I prefer a smaller guy, not skinny, but with a neck. The guys on the soaps are much more my type.

Hopefully, this article answers the question. We like the drama. The drama with the cheesy acting, fighting, unbelievable plots, romance, and the men who have the woman as the center of their universe. Accept it, and we will accept the fact that you like wrestling!
