All About the Equipment

Now that you have your space or an idea where your space is going to be, you need to get set up with all of the equipment to make your business go.

Phones and phone lines are the most basic need of any business. Your regular house phone will probably not be enough for your needs. If that is all you can afford right now consider adding call waiting or voicemail to that line, so your customers can always get a hold of you. If you add a business line through your local carrier, you can get the added benefit of being placed in the local directory. You also get to deduct the cost of adding the separate line. You need to factor in telephone equipment, telephone installation, and monthly charges into the cost. An alternative option is to use a VOIP service, such as Vonage. This type of service goes through your internet connection and is less costly than traditional services. To check into all companies use www.voipreview.com.

Cell phones and smart phones are convenient ways to run your business while you are out of the office. You can receive phone calls, and if you get a smart phone you can type, send emails, or surf the internet.

If you are selling products, you may want to consider getting an 800 number for your customers. However, you may want to consider the charges because 800 numbers can cost a monthly fee and per call charges.

You will probably need a computer to use if you don't already have one. If you plan on doing design work, posting pictures or other major projects, you will want a more high tech computer than if you use it for bookkeeping and invoicing. If you need to purchase a new computer consider shopping around at price watch, price scan, froogle or even eBay. You could get a great computer for a cheaper price.

You will then need software to make your computer run. Microsoft office is the basic grouping of programs. It contains software to type, make slide shows, spreadsheets, and update databases. You can then add other software to help, software like bookkeeping, website building, or even contact management.

Make sure you have a reliable tech support person to assist you with any questions or concerns that come up.
