The day did not begin smoothly for Venus, who took a while to get in tune with her game. Serena started out very well, serving and returning with great intensity and often aiming at her sister's body it seemed. Forget about family affair or conspiracy, which some people have suggested about the match between the sisters. Every Williams was certainly out for herself as the two ladies took turns striking the ball at great speed, Venus' reaching a Wimbledon record of 129 mile per hour.
Spectators were not disappointed, as the two sisters battled hard as though they were playing against complete strangers. In the end it was Venus whose resiliency and ability to garner break points put her ahead. She was able to win this one and end her two times losing streak against Serena. A lukewarm embrace at the end of the game was shortly followed by a happier one when both ladies played on the same side of center court at the women's doubles final.
Venus and Serena took the women's doubles championship a few hours after their battle against each other. This was their third Wimbledon title and their seventh Grand Slam win together. They did this by overpowering Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. With the win, the two sisters can be happy that they are both champions.
It is a rare opportunity that two sisters get this far in tennis or any sports for that matter. They both got to the top, and emerged victorious. I am just so proud and happy for them because they have had their share of disappointments yet continued to strive to be the best. Today, they showed what champions they are.
Congratulations to Venus and Serena Williams! And, to the parents, well done in raising such two talented and classy athletes.

Post a CommentI coach high school girls tennis and will no longer recommend Nike tennis shoes to any athletes. I watched Serena William's match live at the 2009 US Open and heard her threaten to kill a lines person. Had this not been the US Open she would be prosecuted for a felony. She is a terrible role model and I cannot recommend any products that she endorses.
Excellent reporting heard about this, very nice!!!!
