All Fools Day Celebrations

The public of the area where Mr. Fool Hardy lives celebrate All Fools Day. The occasion is important because the Day reflects largely the attitudes and traits. After detailed deliberation they decide to invite a Chief Guest. The lot falls on Mr. Fool Hardy whom the public think is the ideal person for the occasion. He welcomes the opportunity to address them. Though he has a car, he does not use it for the occasion. It is more or less a bucket on wheels and had not covered more than five miles distance at a stretch, unless towed. The organizers agree to bring a vehicle and give a time suited to Hardy. Anticipating the arrival the vehicle, Hardy waits exactly at the appointed time. The car does not arrive. It is past 11 AM. There is no sight of the vehicle in the vicinity.

He telephones to the organizer of the meeting. There is no response. Only by 1 PM he comes to know that there is something fishy about the whole program. He happens to bump into one of his friends and complains. He laments about the decline in the standards of punctuality and discipline. at all levels and cites the latest episode. His friend listens patiently and at the end remarks, Mr.Hardy,"Don't you remember that today is All Fools Day. Every one has the right to fool others. You should have thought of the possibility of being fooled. That is why you are ignored. Do not blame the organizers. They have come to know that earlier when you were Principal of a Professional Institution you admitted inadvertently that you were a fool. Therefore they thought it appropriate to invite you to be the Chief Guest on this day.

Hardy replied." I had only acted like a fool. I am not a fool. How can they take me for a fool?"

His friend added. "They need not take you to be a fool. You will rise to the occasion. They are confident."

The organizers got scent of this and they invited you who they thought was the fittest person for the occasion.

Hardy: That is all right. But whey are they not keeping up the appointment.

The friend said: "That is because today is All Fools Day and it is their right to skip appointments and to fool others".

Hardy feels sad. Meanwhile one of the organizers comes to see him. He meets Hardy and apologizes, promising to maintain good relations in future.
Hardy becomes furious. However, he cools down when he sees a gift pack which in fact was a consoling compensation. He was excited.

He said,

'Now that you have come I will give a message on this day. You can read it over to your friends, if at all you hold any meeting today. It read
"Friends, I am happy to address you in absentia.I wanted to come personally and share my thoughts with you on this day. However, your organizers did not give me a chance. Any way I send this message.

It is a day of celebration for all people like us who have sometime or other committed foolish acts. We do not have to regret about our foolishness. In fact only by comparing performance we can understand the difference between foolishness and wisdom. We provide the opportunity for understanding this vital difference.
In short I wish to summarize. There are two types of fools. One who gives advice? The other who does not take advice. It is up to you to choose. I conclude."
No sooner had the organizer left Hardy opened the gift pack. It had several attractive wrappings inside. In the innermost core was a beautifully written message which read: Fellow of the Old Oxford League, (FOOL), a title we confer on you Sir,"
