All by My Lonesome

Ed Robbins
All by my lonesome
I while the days away
Feeling bad, acting sad
Throughout the night and day

Searching for a partner
Searching for a friend
Searching for a lover
Someone to help me mend

The dust of sin has covered me
As I walk on down the road
My soul it needs a scrubbing
For salvation I am told

The sunlight glitters on the trees
The rain it brings me joy
To hear clap of thunder long
The calm after the storm

The Lord controls our spirits
He sheds our layers of youth
He finds out what lies deep inside
Keeps searching for the truth

Is there a light above us all?
Like diamond grains of sand?
Is there peace within us here?
Does sadness grip the land?

The clairion call of ravens
Their pecking at my sores
Bringing me to vileness
Myself I now abhor

Discovering what we're made of
Instead of sadness and malaise
We should find love instead of hatred
In years instead of days

A wooden arrow shaft of light
Should pierce me to my soul
The dove of peace would follow me
Instead of ravens black as coal

But I work each day to find my way
To sweath the toxins out
To reignite that precious light
That shines within without

But when we beat the Devil's hand
We may not ever be told
But saunter on, ambitions gone
Retiring weak and old

Reserve yourself, defend your light
Your shelter from the storm
Protect your heart that precious part
That hurts when others scorn

The Kingdom's praise will one day raise
The Devil's spirits down
And you will know the Devil's crow
Lies safely in the ground
