There is one area, though, that presented more of a challenge to adapt to than others and that is in the category of cleaning products.
Even though we recognized the environmentally friendliness and personal safety benefits of all natural cleaning products, there was still a major problem with most of them on the market. Put simply: They did not work.
We had been trying on and off to substitute more naturally based products for traditional name brand dishwashing soaps, bathroom disinfectants, kitchen sprays and other household cleaners whenever we had a good opportunity to do so.
We experimented with quite a few. Unfortunately, we continued to arrive at the same conclusion: The chemicals work much better than the more natural cleaning product alternatives.
A couple weeks ago, though, the topic came up in conversation. As it turned out my roommate had heard about an all natural cleaning product made by Clorox. I found this a little hard to believe since Clorox is probably best known for their ultra toxic bleach products. The idea of such an item though, sounded like the perfect compromise. The Clorox name behind it gave the product more credibility and I was inclined to believe that it would effectively clean more thoroughly than other all natural cleaning products because of the successful results I had experienced while using Clorox bleach cleaners.
Sure enough, I found it on the shelf at Rite Aid Pharmacy the next time I shopped for household supplies. The rumor was true. Clorox, the bleach experts now have a line of products under the brand name of Green Works that are available at major retail stores for a competitive price compared to the chemical based cleaners.
Clorox Green Works cleaning products are available for a wide range of tasks such as glass and surface cleaning, laundry, dishwashing and bathroom and shower soap and scum removal.
I selected the Clorox Green Works Natural All Purpose Cleaner in the Original Scent for $3.99. The product is made with essential oils and coconut based ingredients and contains no phosphorous or bleach. It even lists filtered water and a biodegradable preservative as ingredients. It claims to work on just about everything in your house. Specifically, grease, grime, dirt, soils and messes and multiple surfaces including counters, appliances, stainless steel, sealed granite, chrome, cook top hoods, sinks and toilets.
It sounds great, I know. The real question is does it work.
Yes. It does.
I continue to be impressed with how well the Clorox Green Works Natural All Purpose Cleaner lives up to its promise. It really does seem to work as well as the rivaling chemical based cleaning products and with the added bonus that it doesn't sting your eyes and make you feel asphyxiated. You also do not need to use gloves to use this product. Nor does it need to be diluted.
The easy spray bottle container makes the all purpose cleaner easy to use on any surface. I also had excellent results mixing some of the cleaning liquid with water to use while mopping the floor. The linoleum in my kitchen came out shiny and grime free. It also smelled pleasant. There was no need to open all the windows to air out the fumes like I do after I use bleach.
I use the Clorox Green Works Natural All Purpose Cleaner now on every surface in my house where it is safe to do so. This item has replaced several other ones that I have been loyal to for a long time.
I highly recommend this natural alternative to chemical based cleaning products. As for myself, the all purpose solution is working great for the time being but I look forward to trying other products from the Clorox Green Works brand as my needs evolve.
Clorox Green Works believes the following about natural cleaning products and adhere to these principles when creating and manufacturing their line of cleaning solutions.
Natural cleaning products should:
*Give you the same cleaning power as traditional cleaners
*Be made with plant and mineral based ingredients
*Use biodegradable ingredients
*Never be tested on animals
Green Works also supports the Sierra Club Organization's efforts to preserve and protect the planet and is one of the first natural cleaners to earn the Good Housekeeping Seal.
