All Natural Lice Treatments to Apply at Home

Get Rid of Persistent Lice Now

Marie M. Daniels
As a new school year begins and continues there is a topic of concern for parents, teachers and the school nurse. Lice, is the sometimes embarrassing and hair itching condition that is unavoidable at schools. Lice, it's like a four letter word, people do not like to talk about lice or having lice. Most of the time when the lice topic comes up people start to feel an itch on their scalp just thinking about them. Yuk. It is no fun having a lice symptom of itchy head every time you hear of a new outbreak in the schools.

When you put children from all walks of life together at school, unfortunately lice will spread. If you are unfortunate enough to get one of those disheartening phone calls from the school telling you that your child has lice you will at least know you have some all natural options for lice treatment.

Many parents do not know that there are all natural lice treatments and they head to the pharmacy and buy a lice pesticide to get rid of the lice. Some of the brand names for the lice removal products with harsh chemicals are: Nix, Rid, and prescription Lindane that can cause seizures. The warnings for these products are long and include allergic reactions and scalp redness. The warnings also say, "Hazards to humans. Harmful if swallowed or absorbed through skin." Many people believe that the lice have actually become resistant to these products and they no longer work. Forcing people to use multiple treatments and having a toxic build up on the scalp. These products do not sound like something that should go on our precious children's heads.

But you have other lice removal options some all natural and some non- toxic homeopathic treatments. Many parents prefer a safe non-toxic lice removal treatment. Rather than putting a pesticide on their child's head and wondering if or how the chemicals could affect their child and their brain. There are a few lice treatments that you can use that are all natural and lower costing than the chemical lice treatments found in the stores.

All Natural Lice Treatments:
Mayonnaise
Olive oil
Vaseline
Castor oil
Creamy peanut butter
Coconut oil

The way that these at home lice treatments work is by smothering the lice. You can saturate the hair with one of the above ingredients, covering it all. Then cover the scalp and hair with a shower cap or saran wrap then wrap in a towel. Do not leave young children unattended while they have the plastic on their heads. Leave your lice treatment from the list above on the hair and scalp covered for about 1-3 hours or overnight, which works best.
When time is up comb the hair then shampoo or Dawn dish soap to cut the grease. Shampoo the hair once more. Then rinse the hair with some vinegar to loosen the lice eggs or nits. Rinse out the vinegar with hot water and comb the hair again. Then you may want to use a nit comb that can be bought at a pharmacy. You may want to blow dry the hair or use a curling or flat iron to use heat on the lice and finish off any that may be left.

There are also a few tricks that you can use to prevent the lice from coming home with your child in the first place. Try using coconut-scented shampoo and conditioner; this scent seems to keep the lice away. Hairspray has been said to keep the lice away also. If your child has long hair keeping it in a ponytail or braided helps. If your child is game they could get a buzz cut or just shave it all off, then nothing can hide.

Those are some cheap and effective ways to naturally get rid of lice. You may need to repeat the lice treatment in another 5-10 days if some lice eggs were missed. These all-natural lice treatments, if done correctly, will pass the recheck test and allow the child to return to school.
