Many people who like to live a natural lifestyle and eliminate as many chemicals, additives, and artificial components as possible from their diets, also like to have their pets live this lifestyle as well. Surprisingly there are a number of natural remedies that can be used to treat your dog's worm problem. Some of them are herbal and some homeopathic, and the beauty of them is that you can try whichever ones you like, or one at a time until you find the one that works best for you and your dog.
Obviously if possible you want to keep your dog from getting worms in the first place, and there is something that you can do that is natural to ensure your dog never gets worms. If you grind up pumpkin seeds and put it in your dog's food, then your dog will never get worms. You only need to add a little of the crushed pumpkin seeds for this to work, you need only add 1/4 teaspoon daily. You can do this for two weeks and then add wheat bran to your dog's diet. You need to make sure you soak the bran in water, and then add 1/8 of a teaspoon for every 10 lbs for larger dogs, but then only a pinch for smaller breeds. The beauty of this is it's natural and will save your having to treat your dog for worms.
But let's say your dog gets worms, then what? There are actually a couple of wonderful herbal remedies which will help your dog to expel the worms. The best herbal remedy for this is wormwood or Artemisia Absinthinium if you want to use its scientific name. Wormwood is a digestive tonic and has calmative properties which help the dog to expel the worms so he/she is no longer infested.
A second herbal remedy that has been found to be effective for treating worms in dogs is Eugenia Caryophyllata or cloves, something that you may even have around the house for cooking purposes. Cloves possess strong agents capable of detoxifying your dog of worms, and they are also a strong anti-parasitic.
But let's say for whatever reason, you don't want to use herbs, that you prefer homeopathic remedies for yourself and your family which includes the family pet, your dog. Then what? Well, believe it or not there are homeopathic remedies that can be used to treat your dog's worms as well, wonder of wonders. One of these homeopathic remedies that is excellent for expelling worms, and tapeworms specifically is Granatum Vermifuge. An added benefit to using this particular remedy is that it will help to soothe any abdominal pain your dog may be feeling as a result of the worm infestation.
A second homeopathic remedy that will expel the worms from your dog is Naphthaline. Now this remedy specifically expels threadworms only so if you don't know what type of worm your dog has, this may not work to solve your problem.
But what if you don't know which type of worm your dog is infested with, and you don't want to take a chance on treating your dog naturally and then discovering that you didn't treat for the right type of worm? No need to fret, there are a number of combination natural remedies on the market that will treat for the expulsion of multiple types of worms. One such remedy is Homeopet Wrm Clear, another is Worm Out.
In conclusion, the best thing to do is to prevent your dog from getting worms in the first place by giving them ground up pumpkin seeds and wheat bran mixed in with their food. However, should you discover your pet already had worms and you didn't know it prior to trying this preventative remedy, then the other herbal and homeopathic remedies listed in this article are effective and will work.
