Shoshone, ID 83352
United States of America
The downfalls of Shoshone, Idaho is if you are interested in everything being open 24 hours you have come to the wrong place, everything is closed by 8pm, other than a gas station and the bar. However if you drive for 20 minutes you can enter Jerome Idaho, and another 5 minutes you are in Twin Falls, the second biggest city in Idaho next to Boise taking the lead. Another downfall is the job market here, sure there are jobs here but if you are looking to make a decent or high paying salary then you will be looking to drive either to Twin Falls, or to Sun Valley. The perks would be the affordable rent and housing, the people are very friendly, and the small town activities here are fun! Fishing here for rainbow trout and catfish is pretty popular, beautiful fresh air at all times, and green parks.
Events here are common, with the 4th of July party with softball games and free food with a grand finale fireworks show, the summer fair and rodeo, carnivals, the occasional "Art in the Park" with a horse carriage ride, The Winter Festivals, and many more fun things to get involved with month after month, year after year. The good thing is if you live here and need to make a few friends the whole town shows up to most all of these events. If you are a visitor, then you know there will always be something to do. When visiting there are places to stay here in town, a RV park and a few hotels, among them is the Governor's Mansion with a bed and breakfast, a Victorian style mansion with a very homely feel. These are open on occasion. If they are closed and you are looking for a hotel, next door is the city of Gooding, about 15 minutes away, with plenty of accommodations to fit your needs. Or you could always travel to Jerome or Twin Falls, not too far away.
If you live in Shoshone you will get used to it but beware, as a visitor you may here a loud sound every couple hours at night, the trains, they tend to come and go a bit, more than one not used to it may like. Shoshone is a small town, but the largest city of Lincoln County. For the smaller population size, it comes by surprise the number of churches in the town. So most religions preferences will be met for those seeking a Sunday service. Every Sunday at noon you will hear the church bells, this town has many noises from that, to the trains, as well as what may sound like a tornado or bomb warning siren every day at noon and ten at night. There is no required curfew, the sirens have been doing so for over a century, the reason they are still going... Apparently the town leaders decided they liked it. Which may come in handy for using as a rule to get the children in for lunch and before dark. The city of Shoshone has great schools, places to eat, people, and fun things to do year round. So if you look forward to moving, staying for a vacation, or just stopping by... You will know Shoshone Idaho is a friendly welcoming place for you and your family.

Post a CommentI hate seeing typos in my earlier writings/articles. here=hear ... laughs! Amazing to se how much I have improved today, but I still like reading my old stuff!
I would really like to visit Idaho some day -- I hear it's really beautiful.
Great info, thanks:)
HAHAHA @ roberts comment. so true! I am getting used to this small town little by little.
Be careful. I live in Missoula, MT but am from San Diego.
The big difference with people is that you can spot a crazy person in San Diego easily. In smaller towns you have to know the person for a while before you realize they are crazy and by then it's too late to avoid them.
