Alleged Jihadi Terrorist to Face Charges in Brooklyn

Abdel Hameed Shehadeh, 21, was arrested in Honolulu Friday. On Monday, he was sent to Brooklyn to face charges of "making false statements in the midst of a New York-based terrorism investigation," reports The Associated Press.

Shehadeh tried to join the U.S. Army at the Times Square recruiting office back in October 2006. The U.S. Department of Justice alleges that he wanted to join the U.S. military in order to gain the training and weapons necessary to fight U.S. troops.

A criminal complaint unsealed in Brooklyn's Federal Court alleges Shehadeh and several others have been involved in "a plot to travel overseas and wage violent jihad against the United States and other coalition military forces."

Shehadeh tried to fly to Jordan in 2006 but was denied entry. He bought a one-way ticket to Pakistan in 2008, flew there, but was denied entry into the country. In 2009, he set out for Dubai but was stopped by FBI agents because he was on a "no fly" list," according to the AP. If nothing else, he is persistent.

Do not be alarmed that we knew about Shehadeh in 2006 but did not arrest him until now; the FBI and NYPD had him under investigation.
