A lot of allergy sufferers are held captive by pollen, spore counts, and pet allergies. Some people are allergic to things that can turn deadly to them, such as peanuts.
We take antihistamines to block the itchy, watery eyes, the runny nose, the sniffling and sneezing. Sometimes, though, it just isn't enough to keep the attacks away.
Some doctors encourage their patients to take more allergy pills, avoid the allergen (a big DUH factor here!). Although this is good advice, it sometimes takes more to combat the allergens.
Exercise can improve a person's immune system and therefore combat the symptoms. Sometimes a person with a pet allergy can be around the animal for so long, that the allergies diminish with time, and they develop almost an immunity for it.
The worst place for allergies is usually an individual's home. Mold spores can develop with damp surfaces (such as bathrooms) causing a horrible allergic reaction that can sometimes progress to be fatal. Dust is a big factor, and most of the dust in our homes is a product of dead skin from our own bodies. Pollen can enter the home and be cycled through the vents in the house, reaching every room. It's always a good idea to replace your filter every so often.
Improper eating can cause health issues, eating a balanced meal can bump your immune system up to naturally fight more of the allergens. Not to mention some foods are naturally packed with antioxidants that combat free radicals in your body, leaving you healthier. Another good thing to do is to start taking vitamins, if it's a multivitamin, or even a chewable Vitamin C. Any are good for increasing energy and boosting immunity.
Being overweight plays a factor in some areas such as breathing. If you have asthma, and are overweight, it can put extreme pressure on your lungs and the ability to maintain an essential amount of oxygen in your blood stream. Eating healthier and exercising can help drop some of that extra weight, which puts a new meaning to "I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my chest."
Stress is another problem, which can dampen the ability of your immune system, and cause you to become a lot unhealthier. Stress is linked to many diseases, and even cosmetic problems on individuals such as a loss of hair, and blurry vision. It even causes emotional problems such as anger issues and depression.
There are a lot of things that can reduce the pressure and symptoms of allergies. A warm cup of tea can temporarily alleviate some symptoms, and if you don't like tea then hot cocoa is a nice replacement. Quitting smoking is another factor in boosting immunity and being less susceptible to allergens and asthma.
Being sterile is usually the best way to combat symptoms. Always washing your hands, or using hand sanitizer can dramatically cut down on the passage of germs from person to person. It can also wash off pollen and many other potential spawns of allergies that may be lying dormant on your hand.
Wash your face, as sometimes this can help alleviate problems by removing any excess allergens that may be on your face. Always take an allergy pill that is safe for you, as recommended by a doctor.
You can also try a hot bath to open your pours and relax your body, eventually reducing some inflammation that plays a huge role in allergy symptoms. Make sure to wash your bed sheets, clean and fold your clothes, vacuum, and change any filters in your house. Another thing that some people do is place a humidifier inside their house, balancing the air to a stable level.
These are all things you can do to coast along easier, especially when allergen counts are high, and you are dreading taking that step outside. Now-a-days, with science and medicine progressing every day, it's improbable to think that you may have to walk around outside with goggles and a breathing mask on. It's downright ridiculous!
So have a fun and safe time this holiday season, and put those allergies to rest!
