Alligator Adventure-Myrtle Beach, SC

Located in Myrtle Beach at Barefoot Landing, you will find Alligator Adventure. Alligator Adventure is a wildlife preserve that is home to alligators, crocodiles, tigers, snakes, frogs, birds, turtles, bears, water buffalo and river otters. At Alligator Adventure, guests are able to come face to face with these creatures and learn about them through daily feeding shows and presentations. Upon entering the park, you are able to walk throughout the exhibits at your own pace. There are no tour guides that you have to follow, but park staff are available for questions. You will walk along a wooden walkway that winds you through marshes full of alligators. Most of the other creatures are in covered buildings that can be entered and viewed.

Alligator Adventure has over 800 alligators for guests to enjoy. Alligators at this park range in size from eight inches to thirteen feet and up to 600 pounds! There are signs posted at each exhibit that tells about the type of alligator you are seeing. There are a few very special exhibits in Alligator Adventure that all visitors must see while touring the attraction. One of the most unique alligators is "Bob". Bob was born with no tail and has become a celebrity since being at the park. Bob seemed to enjoy his exhibit just as much as we did and stayed in the water the entire time, although you could tell that he was missing his back end. In the center of the park, under a covered exhibit there are two albino alligators. Their names are "Casper" and "Wendy". Because there are few albino alligators remaining, they are a loved exhibit by the guests that visit. For guests that like things bigger and better, they should come face to face with "Utan"-King of the Crocs. Utan is the biggest crocodile at Alligator Adventure. Utan is 20 feet long and weighs more than a ton! He has a very large exhibit area and guests are able to see under the water in exhibit by going around the backside of his tank.

To teach about alligators, snakes and other reptiles, Alligator Adventure has feeding shows and live presentations. Guests are able to actively participate with the park teacher to learn about the various species. When we visited the park, two snakes were taken around the audience and you were able to touch them and ask questions. The park's teacher also "caught" an alligator out of the center tank where hundreds of alligators are kept. She then taped his mouth shut for safety and carried him throughout the audience for a presentation. Visitors were able to touch the alligator and take pictures with him. Staff members also carry out live feedings of the alligators and guests are able to sit back and watch the alligators jump out of the water for their meals. It is a one of a kind experience to see the live feed shows. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, Utan is fed. The park recommends making every effort to come out and watch this amazing show.
