Almond Cheddar Style Cheese from Lisanatti Review

Eventually Tasted Good

I recently got some almond cheese from my mom. She had decided to eliminate dairy from her diet so she had purchased it. Unfortunately her and my younger brothers did not care for it. I tend to not eat very much dairy so I was eager to try the almond cheese. I was a little concerned that it would not be good since no one at my mom's home liked it, but I figured that I would give it a try and keep an open mind. Here is what I thought about Almond Cheddar Style Cheese from Lisanatti.

I was unfamiliar with this brand and frankly had not tried any almond cheese in the past, but I really enjoyed almond milk so I was hopeful. In fact I actually like almond milk better than regular milk and even soy milk, which is what I normally buy. To my surprise I did not love the Almond Cheddar Style Cheese from Lisanatti the first time that I tried it. I found the flavor to be quite different to regular cheddar cheese. However, as I continued to eat it the almond cheese grew on me and eventually I was glad to have had it because it was nice having something to replace the absence of cheese. Once the unique flavor, which I eventually started to care for, became the norm for the cheese I was eating it was not as strange as I originally thought. The package of the cheese suggests that it tastes great, among other things, but I believe that great is too strong of word.

The other things that the Almond Cheddar Style Cheese from Lisanatti package said was that the cheese shreds and melts. I understand why they would include this information on the food item because it was something that I was wondering about. Of course just because the package said that the almond cheese would melt and shred like regular cheese did not necessarily mean that this was true. I decided to put it to the test and grated some of it for burritos. The cheese definitely could be grated and in fact I thought that it grated like a soft cheese, making it easier to grate than the regular cheese I was using before. It does not melt as quickly though, so I had to adjust my cooking times a little bit. However, this was hardly an issue and so I believe that the package was accurate on these matters. I scanned the rest of the package to see what the quality of the almond cheese was.

There are a lot of great things to say about the Almond Cheddar Style Cheese from Lisanatti. It is produced without using biotechnology and does not contain preservatives as well as gluten, cholesterol or soy. Additionally, it was 97% fat free and made of an almond base consisting of cascade mountain filtered water and crushed organic almonds, and the milk protein casein, expeller-pressed canola oil, natural and cultured flavorings, organic brown rice flour, sodium and calcium phosphates, sea salt, citric acid, carrageenan, and beta carotene for color. Although the Almond Cheddar Style Cheese from Lisanatti has no soy in its ingredients it should be noted that the product is made in a facility that processes soy. I hoped the nutrition facts would be as pleasing as the ingredients.

There were eight servings in this block of almond cheese, each being one ounce. In one ounce of the Almond Cheddar Style Cheese from Lisanatti there was 50 calories with 10 calories from fat. Additionally, in one serving there was 190 milligrams of sodium, 3 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, and 7 grams of protein. There was also 25% listed for the daily value of calcium and less than 2% of the daily value of vitamin A, vitamin C, and iron. I believe that it is a healthy alternative to cheese and I would get it again for this reason. Like I said before in the beginning I was not a huge fan of the taste, but once it grew on me I enjoyed it very much. Almond cheese tends to be more expensive than regular cheese, so this will be one factor in how often I eat it, but if you can find it on sale and want an alternative to regular cheese I would recommend giving it a try.
