Almost Famous: A Movie Review

Almost Famous is a movie released in 2001 that documents some real life experiences from director, Cameron Crowe's past. In the movie, Patrick Fugit portrays a young Crowe, as William Miller. William lives in San Diego with his overly-strict mother and rebellious older sister. When his sister decides she's leaving home to become a stewardess, she leaves him all of her records, which are forbidden by their mother.

Due to the gifts from his sister, he grows an appreciation for music, and writing. When Lester Bangs (portrayed by Phillip Seymour Hoffman), editor of Creem Magazine, comes back into town, William hits him up for some advice. Lester gives him an assignment to write a piece on Black Sabbath. On his journalistic journey, he runs into Stillwater instead as well as the lead 'Band Aid,' Penny Lane (Kate Hudson), and Rolling Stone calls him to with an offer he can't refuse. With his new connections, he finds himself on a tour bus with Stillwater, traveling the country and trying to get an article written for Rolling Stone. Things are going great, except the band won't cooperate with him getting his interview, having problems of their own, Rolling Stone is breathing down his neck to get the article, and his mother is very displeased that he has been away from home for so long in an environment she so obviously does not agree with. With everything stacking up against him, William learns what it means to live the rock and roll lifestyle -- the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I loved this movie, it's one of my go-to movies when I want to just chill out and enjoy some good music ;) (plus, I love Kate Hudson and think Billy Crudup is so perfect for this part...he oozes sexy lead singer and actually sings well!)
