It's almost like Woodstock. To be perfectly honest, it is the closest thing to Woodstock you will ever attend anymore. Without the brown pills of course. What I mean is that don't think this is something to find a sitter for. Kids 12 and under are free, and they will have a good time as well.
The first Almost Fest debuted last year (2006) and I was lucky enough to score some free tickets. I brought my oldest stepdaughter, who was 10 at the time, and she had a blast. Consider it an educational experience. Your children will have the chance to know what real music sounds like. The shows put on by each band are as close to the real thing as it can get.
Lez Zeppelin was a cleverly named, all lesbian tribute to the real Van Halen. They did an amazing job, and the fact that all the members (besides the drummer) were very attractive lipstick lesbians led to a standing ovation when "I need a woman" was played.

The Kiss and Pink Floyd tribute bands both pulled off the fire and laser effects wonderfully. If you didn't know they weren't the real thing, you could easily be fooled. This is all the more reason why Almost Fest is a great outing for families, children included.
When Toys In The Attic (last year's Aerosmith tribute band) took the stage, my stepdaughter was not only in awe with the lead singer... who did an excellent impression of Steven Tyler, including the elaborate, over the top clothes; she also was given the opportunity to learn all about the good old music. Even at her age, I taught her why Steven Tyler originally draped scarves over the microphone stand which has become an Aerosmith signature trait. (Originally there were pockets sewn into the scarves where he would hide pills to pop during a show.)

After the concert, my stepdaughter has found a newer appreciation for "older music". She can name all the Beatles, tell you who the Lizard King is and why he is reffered to as Mr. Mojo Risin. Bringing a child to Almost Fest was not a drag, it was an educational experience that was fun for her... and has given me the ability to leave the radio on "my station" without moans and groans from the back seat.
Well, the good news is that Almost Fest was such a sucess that it is back! This Father's Day (June 17) the 2007 Almost Fest will be held at the State Fair Grounds, and advance tickets are available for only $20 as of May 19 at ticketmaster and UPS stores. (Click here to purchase advance tickets to Almost Fest 2007!)
This year's line up is an absolute must see!
Kiss tribute MiniKiss is, can you guess? Midgets... now isn't that reason enough for going?! Wouldn't you pay $20 just to see midgets dressed up like Kiss and perform? That's just part of it!
(For a list of Top Ten Songs by KISS, click here!)
Rolling Stones tribute The Blushing Brides, Jimmy Buffet's tribute Changes in Lattitude and Van Halen tribute Diver Down will also be performing.
(Rollings Stones Top 10 songs, click here!)

Dark Hollow will be there as well, playing as The Grateful Dead. (Click here for a list of the top ten Grateful Dead songs!)
The Machine returns to perform as Pink Floyd once again, complete with interstellar light show! (Click here for the top ten Pink Floyd songs!)
With a line up like this, you can't afford to be at the best concert of the year (almost.) Then you can bug all your friends by telling them how you were at the greatest rock get together... almost.
Almost Fest is a great place to go with friends and throw back a few beers while you rock out to some great music, and at the same time it is a great concert to bring the whole family out to!
Blankets and lawn chairs are allowed, but coolers and outside beverages are not, so be sure to bring enough extra money for food and drink. There are also vendors you can walk around and check out, maybe buy yourself a souvenir from the best concert you'll ever see... almost.
