Aloha State Park is located just a few miles of Cheboygan. The town offers everything you need for your trip such as groceries, gas, shopping, and more. Cheboygan also has a movie theater in case one your days are rainy. Cheboygan is also located just about 30 minutes or so from Mackinac City where you can find even more tourist attractions and shops.
A lot of people will spend a day or so just visiting shops around Mackinac and everyone always buys some famous Mackinac Fudge. Aloha is located off Mullet Lake which is a pretty large lake and is also connected to the Indian and Cheboygan Rivers. Both river's offer some great site seeing of beautiful houses along the rivers and the Indian river will take you to Burt Lake which is also very large.
Aloha State Park offers 285 camping lot's that will vary in size, depending on where your looking for a spot. If you try to get reservations to Aloha State Park, make sure to do so at least 6 months in advance to ensure you a spot sometime in the summer. You can ask for lots based on what you are looking for.
You can get spots along the boat basin which allow easy access to your boat or you try to get a spot near a restroom if you would like to be closer so you won't have as long a walk. You can also get spots closer to the entrance of the park so you can have easier access in and out of the park. Getting in and out is no big problem but I know people like to have easy access sometimes.
Aloha State Park's excellent boat basin offers secure protection from your boat and even with the park filled to capacity, boats will still have a safe distance between each other. At the end of the boat basin, you can find the boat launch area. It offers two separate docks and they are fairly wide in between so there is hardly any issues with loading and unloading space but on the weekend it can be pretty packed! Just to give you a heads up.
Weekends at Aloha usually drive in the weekend campers and they usually take the outer lots and use more tents as compared to campers/RV's. At the other end of the basin you will see the all popular Jetty that is great for getting a view of Mullet Lake and even for doing some perch fishing which a lot kids will do. The rest rooms at Aloha are cleaned daily and offer clean stalls, showers and sink area with obviously having seperated bathrooms for Male and Female. Restrooms are usually closed every day around 11 A.M and Noon for one hour for cleaning.
Mullet Lake is a great lake for fishing and for water skiing and tubing. You can fish anything from Walleye which is most popular, to Perch, Bass, Pike and more. Up past the boat basin kind of by the boat launch, you will find a very nice fish cleaning station where you can clean your fish at. It offers a few faucets with clean running water and trash to discard the remains. Typically every year we go, it comes down to Perch and Walleye fishing and at the end of the week we usually have a fish fry before we leave.
Like I said earlier, you can choose to travel down the Indian or Cheboygan River's which both offer unique sites from beautiful houses to tall grassy areas with waterfowl and more. The Indian River will take you to Burt Lake and the Cheboygan river will lead you through the town of Cheboygan (kinda..) and to the locks which go to Lake Huron and I hear this can take a while so we have never gone that far.
If your ever looking for some great camp sites around Michigan or you love to camp every year and like finding out about different parks, I would recommend looking into Aloha State Park. The park is a great Park for a week of family camping or just weekend if you want to get away with some friends.
