Alone in the Dark

Becky Smith
Author's Note: This poem was written October 18, 1984.

All alone she sits

She is feeling so lonely

How tired she gets

No one says come and hold me

She stares at the memories

Encased in that photo

She lives in the dimness

Nowhere else to go

She cries at night

Alone in the dark

She can only ask "why?"

Why did he steal my heart?

Why did he steal it away from my soul?

What could I say?

I could have told him no.

You will know when you see her

She is beautiful still

Her heart remains pure

And as strong as her will

She lives in the moment

And in her eyes so blue

You will see what she needs

She needs to love you.
